Do All Inclusives Get Boring?

My fiancé and I are trying to plan our honeymoon. We're (hopefully) thinking between $5,000 - 6,000. We would be honeymooning in mid-November. We were thinking of trying maybe Italy or an all-inclusive. Other than for school, neither of us have travelled a lot. I like the idea of not having to do...

I like the idea of not having to do anything after the stress of wedding planning (hence the pull towards an all-inclusive) but I also wonder if it wouldn't get boring without proper sight seeing?

Thoughts? Italy v. Sandals? Other suggestions?

We did an all inclusive in November 2015 for our honeymoon for $2000 for 7 nights with flights! November is shoulder season so great time to go.

It depends what you like to do. DH literally wanted to eat and drink and lay on the beach. We went to shows at the resort at night. We did plan one day off the resort snorkeling and going around the island. You could plan an excursion every other day if you wanted.

All-inclusives are amazing! We went to Cozumel (all-inclusive for the first time) in August and it was a game changer!

We went to sandals for 10 days and were never bored. All inclusive scuba diving, which is amazing! All of the activities are inclusive as well. We did two different excursions on the island (which we had to pay extra for). We had a lot of fun. As for the food, the resort we went to had 8 different restaurants. So, I didn't really get bored of food but, not all the resorts have a lot of restaurants.

We always optr for all inclusive for the convenience of not having to keep our wallets on us while at the resort. If you choose the right one you'll be fine and you're allowed to leave and do your own thing, you don't have to be in a group or book anything through the hotel.

We are doing all-inclusive and it doesn't sound boring at all! We picked it because we wanted a stress-free time after the wedding. We're going to Sandals in Jamaica and entertainment and activities are included too. Scuba diving, snorkeling, boating, etc. Multiple pools and beaches and a private island. We're going ten nights for 7k (including airfare and insurance).

All inclusive still offer excursions to go site seeing. You won't be bored at all. That being said, you will probably have more opportunities to go on an all inclusive vacation than you do for going to Italy.

We did all inclusive in Mexico- adults only as well.

So- let me preface this- hubs doesn't drink. or really swim. And I don't like the beach (that much).

    We stayed Sunday- Friday.

We were going to do one excursion- he got sun poisoning so we stayed in. We still had an amazing time. So I'd say. no.

Food. Drinks for me. water. splashing around. And a stupid amount of sex.

Win.Win. Anything more than a week would have been hard to maintain I think.

I really enjoyed them the two times I've been, but I also have no desire to do that type of vacation for another 5 years.

I've done the AI thing a few times, although never by my own personal choice. I agree with those who have pointed out that it is a great option for groups. My trips were meeting and incentive trips through work, and all inclusive resorts are perfect for that sort of thing since you can socialize with everyone or go off and do your own thing according to your own desires.

For individual travel I wouldn't necessarily say it is boring but I do personally think it is a huge waste. If you plan on leaving the resort to do activities, sight-see, eat local meals, etc. then you might as well save on the huge cost of an AI and just do a standard hotel. And if you don't want to go anywhere or do anything besides eat and drink, you can stay home, turn up the thermostat to roasting, buy a bottle of cheap tequila, and have pretty much the same experience for thousands of dollars less.

Well that's two very different trips! I love all inclusives bc it's great value and very relaxing. You can see the immediate area but it's more low key generally. Italy is amazing but not relaxing or at least not how I did Italy. I wanted to see all the sites and was busy the whole time and loved the culture. It wasn't lay by the beach relaxing, ya know? Both are great but very different so depends on what you want.

ETA - all inclusives can be boring if you're at a bad resort - make sure you pick one that has activities if it rains and night entertainment etc

(I'm a bride to be but also a luxury travel advisor, so take as you will here)...

It totally depends on what you want. AI resorts tend to be in tropical destinations and can feel very "generic" depending on what you pick. For upper end, bypass the Sandals and Secrets and look at boutique places like Hermitage Bay or Jumby Bay in Antigua.

Consider the total cost is often more than you spend when you go to a resort through an advisor that can get you free breakfast and perks like hotel credits. Not to dissuade, but like lots of other posters, I often suggest my honeymooners try places that let them get off island, or have a kitchenette /grocery store nearby so you can buy wine/ beer/booze for the room and save a bit that way. Then you splurge or save as you wish.

Italy is amazing (I'm going there for mine) and you can have a great week for $6k. It's a different feel though, tours and walking and it won't feel "pampering" in the way a beach resort is.

    Either one will be awesome!

All inclusives are all about the same... swim up bars, curtained beds for tanning, watered down drinks, located away from everything, so you have to take expensive excursions, do exactly the same thing everyday. Designed for unsafe places like Mexico or Jamaica! In Italy, soooo much to see & do. Experience the culture, stay in a town or village. Meet the locals. Ear their food, drink their wine.
