Do u tip a DJ? Is there a difference if it is private vs through a service?

We tipped our DJ. He was through a service. Some will say that if your DJ is self-employed then you do not have to tip him (or her) since he set his own prices. I agree with that, but I also think if you feel he just knocked it out of the park you should tip him anyway.

My DJ is self employed. He is also a skilled musician and will be playing guitar for our ceremony and cocktail hour. I will be tipping him for that service. I am paying 50 dollars for a vendor meal for him. I will tip approximately 50 dollars as a thank you. Unless I'm feeling even more generous. Which may happen after a drink or two lol.

Everything wedding related is expensive yet I know my fiancé and I will be tipping. More just out of courtesy. Its not necessary

Our DJ is through a company. In fact, we don't even know who our assigned DJ will be yet. Because of that, we are tipping him.

My dad never expects but always appreciates a tip. Dj's do set their own prices so they don't expect more than they asked for and if it isn't in the budget, don't worry about it! All my dad cares about it that they remember to feed him lol.

I plan to tip all of my vendors when I send out thank yous to all of our wedding guests. I really want to base the tip off the service rather than just giving pre determined amounts to everyone.
