dj Refusing to sign venue Liability Waiver

hannah, on June 7, 2021 at 6:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hey guys! So we’re about 25 days away from our wedding and have been trying to tie up some loose ends - one of those is having all our vendors sign the venue’s liability waiver. Problem is - our DJ is refusing to sign it because it doesn’t cover any damages to his equipment. Is this a normal thing? Are we or the venue in the wrong or is the DJ? It seems just like your basic liability waiver with no red flags or anything. There are so many things that are new to me and this is one of them. We’re doing pretty much all of the planning ourselves and do not have a coordinator. Can anyone help and offer me any insight? Everything has of course been going smoothly up until about 5 minutes ago LOL. TIA!

I’ve never heard of a venue requiring vendors to sign a liability waiver. What does the waiver specify? Does the DJ not have insurance? Did your venue require you to obtain wedding insurance?

A dj should have his own insurance. The insurance through the venue strictly covers damages to the building, not for the individual vendors.

Our venue requires us to get insurance but has no insurance requirements for vendors. Sorry I can't be any help with your specific situation.

25 days prior to the wedding is pretty late in the game. The venue should have provided this to you while signing up with them. Yes, the dj should have liability however, it sounds like the venue wants to be free and clear of any responsibility to his equipment while protecting their venue.
A dj has huge electrical concerns. I don’t know the details but a venue needs to be wired properly to handle what a professional brings in. Any damage done to venue’s electric/wiring is going to cost a fortune. So the venue wants their property covered but won’t do the same for him?
Talk to your dj and find out exactly what the issue is then take it back to the venue. IMO, the venue should be doing this, not you.

Our venue had the insurance in the price but I’m not sure if it covered the individual venders. Ask him if he has his own insurance.
