DJ prices in Rochester, NY area

We’ve been looking into DJs and got a few quotes on Thumbtack. Our wedding is from 4pm to 11pm so we’d need the DJ for 7 hours total. One of the quotes we got was for $770 for the whole time including a Bose speaker system and uplighting. This particular DJ also has 20 years experience. Does anyone in the Rochester, NY area know what the average price for a good, experienced DJ for 7 hours should run? $770 just seems really cheap to me (I live around DC, so maybe it’s just because I’m used to the higher prices around here), and we want to make sure we have an amazing DJ. Any help (or recommendations!) is mush appreciated! Thanks everyone!!

Just Wright Entertainment is fantastic. Brian did my wedding a month ago and I believe his basic package (without uplighting etc.) was about $800 for six hours
ETA: He has great reviews on wedding wire and was recommended by 3 of my other vendors

I feel like Thumbtack has less professional vendors usually. I would stick to WW vendors tab or doing a simple google search and looking at reviews. Does your venue have any recommended vendors? I think $770 sounds too cheap.

eta: make sure you read Google, Yelp and Facebook reviews. WW and Knot reviews are usually only positive.

That seems about right for the prices we were quoted in Buffalo/Niagara Falls.

Hey! I am in the Albany, NY area and our DJ is around $1500.00 for 6 hours. $770.00 does seem on the cheap side to me even though we are about 3 or so hours apart.. I would almost think your area would be higher actually.

I didn’t realize that about Thumbtack; that’s really good to know. I just started using it; it seemed so convenient and looking through the hundreds of DJs on WW and the knot was starting to get a little overwhelming lol. I didn’t find this DJ on Yelp, but I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt since it every business is listed on Yelp, but then I checked Facebook and there were no reviews, so that was another red flag. The Thumbtack reviews were all 5 stars, but very limited (only 20 reviews). Our venue didn’t specifically recommend any DJs but I didn’t even think to ask them, good idea. I think it’s best if we don’t look further into this guy and keep searching.
