dj or Playlist

JENNIFER, on July 6, 2018 at 4:48 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

We are having a small simple wedding, maybe about 50 people. I don't see this group being the dancing crazy type... Also, it's mid afternoon, not night time. We would like to have a first dance, and obviously music for the wedding itself.

We are debating the whole DJ thing or if we can get away with just playing some music in the background and announcing what we are doing ourselves.

Thoughts? Ideas? Any advice is welcome. THANKS!!

We are having the same size wedding and have elected to skip the DJ. We just don't want to spend $1000 on that. Doesn't seem worth it. We have a set of Wonderboom speakers (you can buy them at Costco for less than $150 for both) that we will put at each end of the venue (they are bluetooth and can be paired together). We have a friend that has a speaker that you can connect a microphone to, we will be using that for toasts and such if we feel we need to. Our best friend is the officiant, and we plan on having him make any announcements throughout the evening (cake cutting, first dance) if need be. I have put together a playlist to play during cocktail hour & dinner. We will have a first dance and then another playlist set up for the "party" portion of the reception. I'm not too concerned. It is just a small portion of family and our closest friends attending.

I think a playlist will be just fine.

Well my wedding is larger (185 people) and goes into the late evening so hard to compare but I am definitely getting a DJ. To me it's one of the most important roles as that person will be the MC for the evening and choose the right music to get people on the dance floor, etc. I actually paid more to get a really experienced person.

We too are having a small wedding (50-60 ppl), many who won't dance, and went back and forth about a dj. Ultimately we agreed we wanted someone who could keep the evening running smoothly so we are currently seeking out our dj. To us it's worth it but you have to do what's right for you.

We are having a 50 person wedding and are also skipping the DJ. We're hiring a musician for the ceremony, and just using a speakers/playlist combo for the reception.

    Hi Jennifer!

With a small, daytime wedding you can definitely get away with not hiring a DJ and still keep everything (like ceremony & first dances) special.

Would you download a premade playlist or create your own using you & your fiancé's favorites?

Thanks. We would probably create a list of our own.

We are having a small wedding too. I have music downloaded & bought a Bluetooth speaker to play the music on. I will be in charge of the music. Plus the speaker has a nice so ppl can request a song. I will post a song list so ppl know what's available. I made one rule- if ppl start arguing over what others chose I will remove the requests & I will choose each song. I will not tolerate adults throwing tantrums on my day.

Thank you, I've been checking out those speakers and I think they will work perfectly.
