Dj or pandora

Brittany, on November 12, 2019 at 10:46 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
Hi, my fiancé and I are getting married at venue that’s a barn we will be having yard games and a photo booth, we are wondering if it’s even worth it to have a dj? Neither of us are big into dancing and the barn isn’t air conditioned and where the djs station is is upstairs. We are thinking of renting speakers and bringing our laptop to play pandora and have a friend do the announcements.

Our Spotify playlists went over really well at our wedding. To make it easier on us we made a few for different parts of the day. One to play as guests arrive, one for the ceremony, one for cocktail hour/dinner, and one for the reception. If you want people to feel free to dance, add some get out there and shake it songs (line dances are the easiest way), but really any music to set the mood is fine. We got a lot of compliments on our playlist, and guests enjoyed dancing throughout the night. My big recommendations are to listen to your playlists a few times to make sure the flow feels right to you and none of the songs include objectionable lyrics, and get some really good speakers so everyone can hear what you have put together.

I’d recommend at least using Spotify so you can make the playlist yourself. You can get a 1 month free trial so you won’t even have to pay for it (just make sure to cancel before the month ends)

I think maybe look at the cost of renting speakers. My initial plan was to rent speakers and then I found it wasn't that much cheaper than a DJ

I would suggest a DJ! It is their job to make sure things are running smoothly for dancing, playlist, and announcements, and they bring their own equipment! You wouldn't want to waste valuable time at your wedding trying quickly add songs to a playlist if the vibe isn't right.

If you do go the no DJ route, i agree with Gen, Spotify Premium is much better!

    Playlists are fine!

Also - would highly suggest an air-conditioned venue.

We already have our venue and we weren’t worried about it.
