dj or live music for cocktail hour?

Rebecca, on February 12, 2018 at 4:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

My fiance and I have decided to use live music for our ceremony and a DJ for our reception. They are both from the same company which is convenient but we are having trouble deciding on the overall music for our ceremony. The problem is we have noticed the strings will fit well with the ceremony, but we are worried with the cocktail hour no one will hear them / their are other combos we could see that will just hike the price up. Weather depending our cocktail hour is going to be both inside / outside. We want something to be playing in the background at least. Any thoughts what people have done in the past / preferred?

Thanks!

We're thinking of having our ceremony guitarist play for cocktail hour as well. He's equipped with setting up anything he needs so that it can still be played softly but loud enough for everyone to hear. Our cocktail hour area is also an indoor/outdoor combination.

They should be able to give you an idea of how it will sound based on what they have done in the past and what kind of room they will be in, I would ask them. Strings sound lovely for a cocktail hour!

I really love the idea of strings during a cocktail hour. There's some regal and elegant about it. I'd totally do that.

We're doing a DJ for the cocktail hour and dinner, and a live band for dancing.

I think it would be a nice touch to have live music for cocktail hour. Hopefully the vendor has some insight as to how this would work for your event so you can have some kind of idea of the feel for this.

We’re doing a live musician for our outdoor ceremony and the DJ for cocktail hour and the reception. Our cocktail hour will be indoor/outdoor as well, and we’ve chosen a list of slower songs that we love for it.

Our DJ is also an acoustic musician so he will be playing guitar and singing for our ceremony and cocktail hour and then DJing for reception.

We are planning on doing this!...whenever I get around to settling on a dj lol Smiley smile

Strings for ceremony and cocktail hour (also indoor/outdoor), and then dj for reception. All within one company. I think it will be great
