Dj Information

What is considered expensive for a DJ and what should I look for within one? If anyone has used one that they would recommend that is around North GA, that would be awesome!

I think it all depends on what exactly you want and the area. I've seen people pay $1000 for a DJ for their wedding but to me personally that's expensive. Our DJ only charged us $400 but he's also a family friend and DJs a lot of our events.

You can try looking on thumbtack to see what the average cost in your area is

This is a highly localized question.

We paid around $2000 for ours, but we got married in NYC, and we got a massive discount.

If you go to the "Planning Tools" tab, up above, there's a cost guide, which will help you find the average costs of various vendors in your area.

As the previous comments have stated, cost highly depends on your area and the package you choose. As for what to look for in a DJ, I recommend looking for a DJ who brings a good amount of energy, has experience with weddings, knowledgeable on how to read the room and knows what songs to play to get people dancing, and is someone who you feel you'd like to work with. Look for packages that include at least the number of hours you need, as well as ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception music. If you're interested in extras, ask about whether they have photo booths, uplighting, and dance floor lighting available. I always recommend talking to at least 2-3 different DJ options before making a decision.

The cost varies depending on location, experience, and the package you include. We paid $2,320 for our DJ who was recommended to us by the venue and has been a DJ for over 20 years. Our package included music for our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception, custom monogram, photo booth with scrapbook, dance floor lighting (venue provided uplighting so DJ only provided dance floor lighting otherwise we would have had him provide uplighting), a smoke effect that looked like dancing on clouds that was used for three songs of our choice, and a bubble machine (this was a surprise & included for free) that blew bubbles from the balcony above us to us down below during the recessional. We got married at one venue, but our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception were in three different areas of the venue so while they didn't have to worry about traveling from one ceremony venue to a different reception venue they still had to have more than on set up/tear down. We also got discounts on certain items because we bundled things.

As others have said, it depends on your location. We found a DJ in a smaller town and only paid $700 for 6 hours. DJ’s in the big city where we live were $1100+. My recommendation is to look outside of big cities. Also, ask for recommendations from your venue. That is how we actually found ours.

To go along with the above, for the Cleveland, OH area we were going to pay $1400 for ours (ended up canceling due to downsizing our wedding significantly). This did not include uplighting or a Photo Booth, and was for all day -- covering the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception.

We are paying just under $1000 for our DJ and a few uplights and no photobooth during reception, which I consider pretty good in the MA area. The others I was looking at were closer $2000+ depending on what you wanted.

My rule of thumb is to get at least a few quotes and then you look at the average of that and then you'd know whether you're getting a good price or not.

We live in Georgia and are also are going to have our wedding here! We haven't selected a DJ yet, but here are the ones that we have on our list to inquire about! All are located around Atlanta/Athens and can travel!

Sounds Right Entertainment : They've worked with our venue before and have great reviews! There are various packages that they offer and imo are pretty affordable.

Athens DJ Service : They DJ'd for the last wedding we attended, and they were pretty good! They also have different prices.

Ampd Entertainment : This was the first company I found when I started wedding planning. A little pricier, but they offer different packages as well! They have great reviews too!

You're welcome! WW is great too when looking for vendors, but I just used google to find DJs closer to our venue!
