Not sure what to do! I have the DJ for 4 hours. Reception is 6-10. We have the venue till 11pm but we wanna get to the hotel at a decent time. Plus while the reception & ceremony are at the same venue they are a ways apart so they'd have to breakdown and setup their equipment twice. Any of you girls do something different? It's outdoors so we won't have a church piano or Anything to use. Thanks for your help ahead of time!Smiley smile

My ceremony is outside and reception inside as well. I asked my DJ and he is going to do my ceremony at no extra fee... so it never hurts to ask. Also, check with your venue to see if they have speakers outside the DJ can use during the cermony. My venue allows the DJ to use their outside speakers for the ceremony.

As I've stated before, this post was meant to have brides who had something other than a DJ for the ceremony to let me know alternatives they used. I'm not having a DJ for my ceremony, so that isn't the issue. I just wanted idea on what other people did. Thanks!

We are using our DJ for both ceremony and reception. From 6-midnight. I would suggest trying to find a way to get more time in there. I am over budget too but we are saving every extra penny we can to make it all work.

Keep in mind you could sell things to help with costs after the wedding. I made my own centerpieces. The florist wanted 4K... I made them for 900.

Do you have any friends coming that know how to play the violin or cello?

Or a friend that is a great singer? Rent a mic and you could do that for the ceremony.

Also, look up the Vitamin String Quartet.

    Sunshine,

My apologies if I made you think "DJ" meant someone who plays music for your wedding ceremony.

What I was trying to suggest is that (depending on the location), a DJ's services might be required for the following:

    1) Amplified sound so your guests can hear the officiant speaking

    2) Microphones for bride and groom

    3) Microphones for singers/readers

    4) Sound Engineering for professional musicians

    a) Guitarists

    b) String Quartets

    c) Woodwinds

My intention is not to "sell" you on pre-recorded music, but rather to help you consider options.

One of the limitations you might encounter with an outdoor wedding is that "acoustic" instruments don't carry well and some guests will not have an opportunity to enjoy the ceremony thoroughly. And, as mentioned before, one of the biggest advantages of amplified sound is that your guests can hear your officiant's celebration and possibly your exchange of vows.

I hope this clarifies a little bit. Good luck!

I would ask the dj if he was a solution before taking it upon myself to worry about it. In my past experiences, I can work out any small conflicting details with my dj's. The dj may bring an extra speaker & cd player or iPod adaptor and only charge an additional $50 (if that). Just communicate with who you already have to see their capabilities before hireing another. It may NOT be necessary.

Good Luck and let us know if we can assist you in any way. www.vipevens2010.com

We're having a string quartet for our ceremony, and a DJ for our reception. Not sure if you have considered this, but it's another option!

For an outdoor ceremony try a guitarist, violinist or harpist!
