DJ for a morning wedding?

LanaKane, on June 1, 2017 at 6:20 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

I booked a DJ for my wedding but im having second thoughts. The reception is an early one starting at 11am and ending at 3pm. Plus, most of those invited are OOT and out of country so i expect to have a total guest count of 50 adults and maybe 9 kids and teens. Is it worth it to have DJ? Maybe we could set up a play list on Spotify? I doubt we'll have a party atmosphere this early. I was thinking of reallocating those funds to something else like our honeymoon.

To save funds I think that's an awesome idea. Plus you're right, 11 is early for party feeling.

If this sounds snarky, it's not my intent, but I think it would be wise to open your thread to vendors so they can post based on their professional experience. At least, that's what I would do.

Personally, I'd rather have professionals in charge of the music, versus doing a playlist. That's just my opinion.

I'll comment to bump this for you, so anyone who attended a brunch wedding or bad a brunch wedding can see this and give you their two cents!

My sister had a brunch wedding like yours! It was REALLY nice! They had a CD/playlist playing softly over the speakers that the family chose love songs for and then passed the CDs out as favors to the guests. I think that's a really neat idea, but yeah I don't think you would need to get a DJ since they're usually there for getting the crowd to the dance floor Smiley smile

I would definitely hire a DJ. A good DJ can make a party atmosphere, or whatever feel you'd like. Silence is awkward and I don't know if I would trust my wedding to a Spotify playlist if I could afford it. You might even get a better price because it's during the day and the DJ could work another wedding that night. I

I have an afternoon reception. My ceremony starts at 11 and everything is done by 4.

My original thought was to just set up my own music, but instead I found a DJ. I just didn't want to have to worry about problems day of.

Shop around and you may be able to find something reasonable.

I would have a DJ. I get the inability to have a party atmosphere that early but Spotify or any other music app could go wonky or play stuff you wish it hadn't.

@mrsg I did get a discount for it being on a Sunday morning plus my FH is in the military. And she threw in the ceremony music for free. And no deposit (sounds too good to be true!) But I'm just not sure anymore

We went to a bunch wedding that had a DJ. While the DJ wasn't the greatest, due to the delays and all, no DJ would have made it unbearable.

I think you could entertain your guests with a live band or group of some sort. Like a string quartet or depending on the atmosphere or vibe of the wedding you could tailor that.

DW beach wedding here and I am hiring a steel drum player for the ceremony and the food portion of my event. DJ for the rest.

I would do the playlist. We have an evening wedding and since we aren't doing dancing we are just setting up a stereo with pandora to play some background music during the reception

We are doing our wedding at 10:30am, cocktail hour 11-noon, and reception noon-3pm. The DJ is the first vendor I hired before we even had the venue set. He happens to be a friend who is well known for his wedding DJ services for years in our area. He is going to wake people up on a Saturday morning!

Although I had an evening wedding, I still would have had a DJ for any time of day, especially without a DOC. My DJ was incredible at keeping the dance floor moving, announcing all of the major events, and even checking on my sick MOH and wrangling the groom! I would recommend keeping the DJ.

Team DJ... unless you have live musicians, you still need someone to cue music for the ceremony. And so many things can go wrong just having a playlist on spotify. And what if there are issues with the sound system....

I am also having an early wedding(reception is 11-4). I was initially against having a DJ. I think what changed my mind was when we started to talk about how we would move from the cocktail hour, to food (yay brunch!) to dancing. That is part of their job too, besides providing music. The feel of an early in the day wedding won't be as party, but people are still at a party and will likely still want to dance.

You should keep your DJ. I went to a wedding a few years ago with that same time frame and we definitely partied.
