Dj expense

Emma, on July 5, 2019 at 12:29 AM Posted in Planning 0 10
Hello,

My FH and I found a DJ we really like! I can’t get over the cost though. $1650 for only 3.5 hours. He says he charges a daily rate not an hourly rate but we already have ceremony and cocktail music booked. He has wonderful reviews and seems very organized but he is over budget. Should I splurge? Does this price sound too expensive?

That sounds like a lot to me but I have heard of some going for that rate or higher

That’s over $450/hour since you only need 3.5 hours. It’s too bad he won’t consider doing a partial day or hourly, but I understand why since he can only work your wedding that day and I’m sure puts a lot of work into each event.

I would check with other DJ In our area. Mime is 700 for 5 hours. But different areas have different prices.

That's pricey. He won't negotiate with you at all? I'm sure there are others thatre cheaper that are also good.

We're in a high cost of living area and daughter's DJ was $1300 for 7 hours -- pre-ceremony, ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. He was awesome, so that sounds like a lot.

Get at least three quotes and compare the services and costs. It’s such an emotional time but we gotta take steps back and look at everything holistically. Every dollar counts! Saying yes here, is a no somewhere else.

You can probably find a better deal than that, but it’s understandable that he wants his regular rate even though you only need 3.5 hours. He can’t do your 3.5 hours and then go do another wedding the same day and you’re getting married in a popular month on a Saturday.

That's a lot considering you have other entertainment booked. I was lucky and found a dj/musician all in one. He was great. He cost 850 for the whole shebang. He played guitar for the ceremony, sang/played guitar for the cocktail hour and first dance and DJed the rest.

If you're able to afford it and it's something you feel strongly about, go for it. However, unexpected costs arise often so keep that in mind. Good luck!

My DJ is $1500, but that is for both the ceremony and reception (about 6 hours). She will be both the DJ and MC

Really depends on your area. We paid 1300 for two DJs for 7.5 hours, from beginning to end of the entire day (started at 11:00am and finished at 6:30pm) of no lighting, Rochester NY.
