DJ etiquette?

Vyrgnya, on October 1, 2016 at 4:23 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

Alright so, we've gone over our original budget so we had to compromise a tad on our DJ and go with someone we work with (he has tons of experience but he's older... But he's literally over half the cost of anyone else so we couldn't say no) but I'm worried his voice just won't carry or draw enough attention with announcements. Is it rude to ask him to just worry about the music and have a friend of mine so all the announcements??? I know I'm the one paying him for a service but I don't want to be rude either so I'd rather ask someone who I know will get the attention of the crowd for games, entrance announcements and such. This friend also knows everyone except my FH parents and family (they live very far) so I would think veryit would also be more special for us to have him do the talking. Is this rude? Please help. (((Thank you!)))

Is he a professional DJ? Let him do his job, if he does this for a living he will know how to work the crowd.

Did you meet him in person and hear his voice? Did you check his reviews to see if anyone complained about that?

    Doesn't he have a mic?

He has all the equipment, he's a professional, been doing this for decades. I work with him so I hear his voice all the time. His voice doesn't carry, he just sounds like an old man. I'm not worried that he doesn't know how to do his job, I'm worried no one will understand him. Thus the question about someone else doing announcements.

Well it's honestly up to you, we never know how he might take it, but if you're worried no one will understand him then I understand you.

Then don't hire him. Don't have one of your friends make the announcements etc. This is part of what a trained DJ does. If you don't have the confidence, pick one of the others.

We hired a dj who was a professional but we had a friend do the announcements bc it was special to us. If you put that spin on it , it won't seem offensive Smiley smile

    It still disrupts his job.

FH is a DJ and I know he would be very put out if someone said he couldn't do the announcements because it totally disrupts the flow and the time line if they have to track down whoever is supposed to make announcements.

Let your friend enjoy himself and not work during the reception

Your DOC could possibly make announcements.

    What's DOC? And the DJ isn't a friend, just a co-worker.

With a mic it shouldn't matter if his voice doesn't carry and usually guests will catch on and tap glasses if needed. Your paying for his services. Let him do his job.

I think he might get kind of offended. Him having a mic should fix the problem though.
