Dj "Do not Play" list

Okay so it was suggested to me to make a list of do not play songs to give to my dj, to keep guests from trying to get something like the chicken dance on that will just drive me crazy. Anyone else doing this? If you are, what songs did you list? I know my guest list pretty well and I definitely...

Okay so it was suggested to me to make a list of do not play songs to give to my dj, to keep guests from trying to get something like the chicken dance on that will just drive me crazy. Anyone else doing this? If you are, what songs did you list? I know my guest list pretty well and I definitely have some trouble makers that will pick the songs they know i hate just to see the annoyed look on my face, so I'm trying to bite that bullet early and seeing what others are putting on their lists I think would help me a lot to complete mine! Even if you aren't doing a list, what songs would you put on it if you were?

@Danielle Oh no I forgot about the hokey pokey. That needs to go on my list too lol.

@amanda that's a great idea! I'll have to do that too.

I don't have specific songs on my "do not play" list, but I do have artists. On this list there is Rihanna, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj. I can tolerate almost any other artist.

@Sylphier- I tell my FH all the time that I do like 90's music, just good 90's music- Foo Fighters, Bush, etc. but I'm way more into rock than pop in general.

@Amanda- that's a really good idea we'll have to do that too.

Minimal to no country, quite possibly no line/group dances (chicken, cupid shuffle, macarena), probably no beyonce, and absolutely no abba.

Our "do not play" list included:

    -no country music

    -Taylor Swift

    -Justin Bieber

-Black Eyed Peas (I hate their music especially "let's get it started").

    -"Happy" by Pharrell

Luckily for us our DJ was close to our age so he knew exactly what kind of music we wanted to hear.

Our DJ asked for one, but I can't think of anything to put on it. If my guests want to hear a certain song, it's fine with me even if it's not my very favorite. I will probably ask them to limit country songs since I'm not a fan but some of my guests are so I wouldn't ban them entirely.

I'm a total weirdo, so I have actually put most of what you guys have said on my "OK to play" list: Cupid Shuffle, Electric Slide, 2 NSync songs (I LOVE THEM!!!), Shut Up and Dance, Livin' on a Prayer, YMCA, etc. etc.). I'm also from Pennsylvania, so if we don't have the chicken dance, there will be a riot.

On my Do Not Play list: the aforementioned Blurred Lines (I think it's catchy, despite the overt misogynism, but one of my friends would have an aneurysm), Whip/Nae-Nae (despite Nay-Nay being my nickname since infancy, I hate that stupid song), Cotton Eyed Joe, Beyoncé, the line dance with all the instructions in it (now one stomp...now two stomps...HAAAAAATE), any country music, and any heavy-metal-kill-your-sister music.

@lovecat I'm from Pennsylvania too! My family will not be thrilled about the chicken dance being banned but I can't stand it.

I do plan to have a ton of nsync and backstreet boys and spice girls play. I was very into 90s pop. Had to add and whip/nae nae song to my list, hate that one too!

@Susan yes 90s Rock was amazing! I loved pop too but I know plenty of people who didn't haha.

@Sylph, not only am I from Pennsylvania, I'm from Bethlehem, home of Musikfest! I think the chicken dance is like the city's unofficial anthem. I really have no choice. I can look like a doof for 3 minutes, it will be fine Smiley smile

I love cheesy 90s pop, too (despite being in my, cough, thirties in the 90's...) but have restrained myself. If I had my wicked way with the playlist, it would be all boybands and showtunes, but ain't nobody gonna stick around for that!

There are honestly no songs my DJ would play that doesn't bump... I've never heard of a few of the songs you guys listed so it may be a demographic difference

All I wrote was break up songs, like I've heard "to the left" by Beyonce at a wedding and while I like the song it always bugs me when I hear songs like that at a wedding lol. That's not to say we are only having love songs either, just not songs like that or carrie Underwood "before he cheats" or something that clearly doesn't fit at a wedding lol

My list is anything innapropriate. I will have a ton of kids at my wedding and I don't want then to be exposed to any songs they shouldn't be.

I'm not scared to say I think Beyonce is so over rated. I don't see how people are so in love with her music. IMO, it sucks!

I am putting the song request line on our RSVP cards, I hope we don't get anything back that's already on my Nope List. lol

Ugh, FH wants Cotton Eye Joe but I hate it...I compromised. Lots of people like that song. As long as people are having fun I don't care. But absolutely no Blurred Lines!!!
