dj contract question -- is this standard?

Kim, on August 8, 2018 at 11:22 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
Hello! I'm currently going through the process of securing a DJ for the wedding. They sent a contract and it seems good, but I have one concern.

In the contract, It says that if anyone damages any of their equipment, we would have to pay for it. Is this a standard thing? I just want to make sure I'm not getting anything shady from this. Thank you!

I can understand that one. I mean it's their equipment and if your guest mess it up. I guess you are responsible if your guest refuse to pay for it, which hopefully as adults if they break something they would pay for it

Yep, ours says that too. And FH's cousin had his kids running around the DJ equipment at their wedding and sure enough they knocked over and broke a light... they got a bill! (Which I totally think is fair)

Sounds standard but, please correct me if I’m wrong, some DJs come with insurance that could cover damages to their equipment or you can buy insurance for them for the event (~$100 per day) so that could be an option

It is absolutely standard. Their equipment is like super expensive to replace so they gotta make sure it's understood that if someone breaks something, someone has to pay. Just tell people not to go anywhere near your DJ!!! Lol

I think that's typical, just in case a guest spills their drink over their $1,000 speakers or something. You could look into wedding insurance to see if it would cover that too.

Yeah, definitely standard. Even my contract for the room block at our venue’s hotel says if guests damage the rooms we have to pay for damages 😑

That's in our DJ's contract as well and I totally agree with it. I'd want someone to pay for my stuff if they damaged it.
