DJ at Ceremony Rehearsal

Kristyn, on February 1, 2016 at 1:00 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

We are using our DJ for both our ceremony and the reception so I was just wondering if we should ask our DJ to attend the rehearsal (not necessarily the dinner portion)? I know I would feel much more comfortable having them rehearse with us, but I'm just not sure if it's customary or even really necessary (maybe some DJs can weigh in on that last part!).

Thanks!!

I wouldn't. You would have to pay them for the time, and they may have a minimum (like you may need to pay for 4 hours even if you only need 30 minutes).

A DJ did our ceremony and didn't need to rehearse.

We didn't have any of our musicians at the rehearsal. We did go over everything in a meeting a couple days before the wedding though.

Also, if you make him go, you either need to pay him or give him dinner. Probably both.

    No, not necessary

I have never seen this, ever. You'd have to pay them, they probably won't be available, and a good dj can work with a cue sheet. Your officiant and coordinator go over the cues and then help them with the processional and recessional.

I don't think its necessary! You'd have to pay for his time and you should probably invite him to dinner.

I wouldn't think it's needed. One planner we interviewed suggested having the music played for the rehearsal from a phone or something so you could see how the timing would work. We will probably do that.

Thanks, CassieM! I really like that idea because then I can figure out the timing of everything still and just let him know. Thanks everyone for the input!!

I second Cassie. Our DOC said she'd play the intended songs on a Bluetooth speaker so that we can get the timing right Smiley smile

Definitely not. First, they may not even be available- he/she probably will have another gig, either a wedding or another event, or at a nightclub or bar. Secondly, there is no need for them there at all. I played the songs from my phone!

If the DJ has not DJd at the venue before, it is advantageous for your DJ to attend if they're available. Most DJs can do Thursday evenings but maybe not Friday evenings. Its advantageous for the DJ as well as the entire bridal party. It may cost a little more, but some include it in their packages.

Also, if you're using microphones it's helpful, especially if your officiant just became ordained. If the bride and groom are also using a mic, it's helpful to practice. This all helps the nerves to relaxSmiley smile

However, if your officiant is a pro and is providing amplification, it may not be necessary. Weigh it out
