Hi All! I plan to do my centerpieces with wood rounds with a mason jar on top. Those who have done them before, what kind of tools did you use? diy wood slices/rounds center piece's 1

This isn’t a DIY per say but if you go to Christmas tree places they actually cut the ends off of the tree and they look like that aha and I think a lot of places will just give them free because they’re scraps

I purchased all my wood rounds on Etsy (they were 9" diameter) as it was the cheapest place I could find. BUT they are not sanded or finished. I'm ok with that more rustic look but it's up to you.

If you or your FH are confident with power tools you can just use a chainsaw to cut the rounds and an power sander to smooth them out.

Im trying to get some as well for my wedding next month! The ones in craft stores are expensive to me. I looked on FB marketplace for a while and some of those weren't bad. But I just heard from a cousin and a friend that they each know someone who could let me borrow like 10 of them for free, so I'm so happy about that!

These are really common decorations, I see them in the resale sites all the time. I would definitely keep an eye out there and hit up the thrift stores for the jars. You'll save a bundle!

Thank you for sharing this!!! I really doubt I could diy this myself and this is definitely more affordable than what I’ve been seeing.

Check with Facebook marketplace and local yard sale ads. I just posted in my area and I’ve gotten a couple of offers but we’re still haggling prices right now.

So my mom just cut down a huge eucalyptus tree. We took 12-14 inch in diameter logs and sliced them with a Silky katanaboy 500- some fancy big saw my FH had to have. Since the logs were so wide, we didn’t have a big enough chainsaw to cut through the hard wood cleanly. And neither my future husband or I felt comfortable renting a huge/industrial chainsaw. I didn’t like the 8-9 inch diameter slices. They looked too small to me. Honestly, it was a lot of work. They turned out great, buuuut I might just buy them precut. I’ve seen where they have some on Facebook Marketplace or Etsy.
