Brooklyn, on May 15, 2020 at 9:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 11
Soooooooo I am wondering if anyone else has decided to make their own wedding dress? I am in the process of seeing mine! Good idea, bad idea? I don’t know but we will see!

Go for it if you are a seamstress by trade or hobby. Don't do it if you don't have plenty of experience in making clothes already. Otherwise order something from a local Etsy shop. Filter the search results for North America vendors so you aren't getting a Chinese bootleg shop.

Hells no. But I don’t have patience or sewing skills. Unless you’re experienced and really want to do this what if you bought an inexpensive sample wedding dress and tailored it to make it yours?

Also a good idea. This is actually more what I’m leaning towards. I like the idea of finding a cheap short white dress with some glam, and a ball gown white skirt/dress and combining the two!

I’m not a seamstress but wedding dresses are definitely very different than a regular dress. I’d hate for you to waste time & money and not get the beautiful bridal look & fit you want. My reception dress was a discontinued wedding dress for less than $200. It was strapless and long but I loved the polka dot fabric and fit in the bodice. I had the seamstress cut into a tea length and with the extra fabric created a vintage style top with short sleeves.

Keep us posted on your progress! Would love to see.

I will be making my own dress. Partly because of the color I want ( my dress will be my something blue) . And partly because my mom maid her dress and i thought it would be cool if me and my mom make my dress together

Similar line of thinking for me! I’m a great seamstress, I want something specific, and I think it would be cool to pass down to my kids one day!

Both my mom and aunt made thier wedding dresses, but they both made thier own clothes regularly. I am making a qipao dress for the tea ceremony we are having before the wedding ceremony. But I am not making my actual wedding dress. It would take way too much time and not being able to go to a fabric store to feel the fabric before buying is something I am not comfortable with doing.

I was planning on making mine, because I had a very specific image in mind. But then I went dress shopping and found the perfect one. I kind of regret not making it, but it's too late to start now!
