diy wedding decor

Catherine, on November 14, 2019 at 7:45 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11
So my partner and I are planning to do DIY centerpieces, (but we all know majority of the responsibilities falls on the bride). Although I feel capable of doing something that’s inexpensive while still being in love with my centerpieces. What I am wondering now is who will help set up the day of the event. For my brides that are planning or have done DIY weddings. What are some tips? I know some people have their bridesmaids and family help but what if they are scared to organize such a special event for me. I would like to set up but I know I’m just setting myself up for a stressful day before the event even starts. As of right now I haven’t purchased any items just doing myself research before I commit to DIY or just hiring a professional( which I really don’t want to do).

We hired a DOC to do our setup and tear down. We didn’t want to put our friends and family to work on our wedding day.

Have you checked with you Venue if they have a coordinator?

diy wedding decor 1 So I’m going mine DYI, they’re not finished yet but this is general idea the numbers and lights will be nicer. My venue told me that if I drop them off the day before or even the week before they would store and my coordinator would set them up for me the day of my wedding. But also a secondary family member is always an option. So my brothers girlfriend since my brother is in the wedding and one of the grooms men’s fiancé since they won’t be in the pictures before also offered to help

I have my venue the whole weekend so I’m setting up the night before after the rehearsal dinner and finishing up early in the morning. My family has offered to help but I’m hoping I can just get it done in time to not worry about it.

Im DIY'ing a lot for my day. Check with your venue. My venue sets the tables up as i want and i can come in the night before and morning of. I rather get the stuff done while im there because if someone messes it up (like they did to my sisters wedding cake by stuffing stupid carnations in the top) im gonna flip! Because of my theme, i was able to find thing on clearance. Don't be afraid to be frugal. Centerpieces either go home with guest, or trashed 🤷‍♀️

We will get our venue in the morning. I’ll have family to help. We are going to set up each table group of decorations at home and take a picture of how they are supposed to be, then pack each table group in its own box (guestbook/card box, dessert table, sweetheart table, centerpieces, herb toss table, etc). Everyone helping will have a picture of each set up on their phone as well as a list of decor that gives the location and special it’s about each item. We have a few things moving from the ceremony area to the reception area.

I’d highly recommend a DOC or even hiring some local college students (maybe kids of your friends, or if your parents’ friends).

For our DW, we had 3 SUVs packed of DIY decor. We barely got everything set up in the 4-hour block and the venue even helped (tables, barrel decor, place settings). For our local reception, we ran late with 6 of us setting up for 3 hours and honestly that was uncool to our friends. It was WAY too much work. We had DIY decor on steroids but still hire help.

I hired a day of coordinator. I thought about doing it myself with my bridesmaids but that was too much hassle and time so I ended up just leaving the stress out and hiring someone

I see a common theme of hiring a DOC. Before doing that I’m going to ask my venue. If they don’t have one where do you guys go to search for a DOC.

I hired my DOC through my caterer for wayyy cheaper than finding them separately. I originally didn't want a DOC because I figured we could set it up easily, but my venue had restrictions on doing it yourself. I think it will end up for the better and being less stressful, but I definitely couldn't have done it if it was $2000 like so many quoted. Had I not used my caterer I probably would have hired off the Thumbtack app

I wondered the same thing. I am doing flowers/centerpieces from Costco and they need to get to venue. I have a friend who isn’t going to ceremony but reception and she’s offered to bring them to venue and they will place on tables. I was also thinking about a college kid or in law of an in law.
