diy Wedding Cake

Amy, on January 22, 2020 at 2:47 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9
Has anyone on here made their own wedding cake? Yes I know it's crazy, and time consuming, but between myself and 2 of my baker bridesmaids I think we got this! I'm not worried overall because it's going to be a very simple cake. However, my main concern is how many days in advance can you make it for the actual wedding?
I'm also going to make a practice one to verify the recipes and everything. But I'd like your insight as well. Cheers!

Another option is just buying store bought cakes and decorating it yourself

I had planned on it but ended up just buying a cake. If you decide to make it yourself just make sure that the timeline won’t give you a bunch of stress. Our cake was made and picked up the day before the wedding.

I haven't personally but I follow a baking account on Instagram @chelsweets and she also has a more formal blog - she's a full time baker who also made her own wedding cake and posted an in depth article about it online! This includes making the cake, transporting, decorating with real flowers, etc Smiley smile Good luck!!

How much cake are you going to have to make? I think that’s a big consideration as well. If your wedding is 100+ I don’t think I’d recommend it. Also are you tiering the cakes and if so are you or your baker friends versed in how to do it?

I don’t think it’s a bad idea (I made my own for my first wedding and it went really well!) I just want to make sure you know what you’re getting into

It'll feed about 50 people and yes there will be tiers, but I've done a few of these before with the dowels and all. Do you happen to remember if you made yours the day before or how many days before the reception?

I thought about this once but I want more interesting flavors. Maybe this could work for the base layer though. Thanks.

Mine was smaller than yours, but I made all the cakes two days before and put it together and iced it the day before. If you’re tiering it, I would obviously transport the individual cakes and tier it on location. But I think it will be great! Good luck!
