DIY vs. Hire a Florist

So I'm debating whether or not I should do things myself or hire a professional to decorate the reception venue. What do you guys think? I want to be very involved in the planning process of our wedding, but I don't want to stress out much either LOL

I was going to DIY but when I figured out the time it would take putting together the centerpieces a day or two before the wedding I stopped. I foud a florist who worked with my budget and produced beautiful flowers. She also did set up and delivery free. One less thing to worry about. Plus those days leading up to the wading I was exhausted and never would have had time to put them together

I'll add that for a very simple bouquet (15 flowers in it, maybe) I made it in 15 minutes. Therefore I decided it's worth it to DIY for our 5 bouquets, with my sister and mom's help.

The bouquet I made last Saturday still look perfect in water, minus one flower (which I'll be sure not to use when we work on them for the wedding).

Testing this ahead of time will give you a good idea if you're up for it.

It also depends on when you can get into your venue to set up. If you can't get in the day before and need to do it the morning of the wedding -- that would be very stressful. Everything takes longer than you think it will -- which will make you late for hair/make-up, photos before the ceremony, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception. When vendors start charging you overtime, you'll quickly spend on them what you saved by DIY-ing the flowers.

I made a sample bouquet for a test run, and it turned out beautifully! Of course, flowers are not a huge priority for me, so I'll be creating 5 bouquets, bouts and 7 very, very simple centerpieces. Make sure to try out the flowers from the flower shop you'll be using as I've found that the ones from my local market actually look best about 2 days after I purchase - which works perfectly for pre-wedding DIY project! I'm using roses and hydrangeas, so the type of flower may make it easier to work with. If you 'need' them to be perfect on the day of, then maybe it's too much stress. However, I'm pretty laid back and don't mind a bit of variety in how things turn out. It's 100% doable though!!

I was going to DIY my centerpieces, when I ordered them from the florist it was like a GIANT weight off my shoulders. We're having small (4") vases on each of the tables and I only have an MOH, so it's costing us $770 total. Well worth the price.

I am contemplating whether or not to do the centerpieces and flowers. My wedding is still a ways away. I think in the end, I am hiring a pro to do the flowers. It's just one less thing to worry about the days before the wedding. Most definitely.

Hire a pro. I was so stressed doing by cousins wedding flowers. Time goes so quick. Enjoy your day and relax. Its worth every penny to get a pro.
