diy Veil

Jennifer, on May 15, 2019 at 12:03 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15
I really wish I'd taken progress pictures of this, but it was dead easy to do. I used three yards of 108" wide tulle, a metal comb, and 5 yards of lace that I tea dyed. For anyone concerned about the price of a veil, with a bit of sewing experience, this was EASY. The only thing I didn't do was to gather the entire top edge of the fabric. I didn't want it very poofy. I gathered 1/2 or maybe 2/3, in the center, and cut the edges off at an angle to where the lace starts. That sounds weird, but it gave me the shape I wanted.

Gorgeous! I was totally going to diy mine but the dress store had a promo for a free veil of choice when buying a dress that month!

Thanks everyone! There's one or two things I'd do differently to do it again, but I'm SO happy with it!

If anyone is looking for what the thing looked like before being gathered, it was like this, more or less. I gathered it onto the comb before attaching the lace, which I definitely would have done differently. I should have gotten the piece looking like that sketch first, then attached it.

Well done! I am semi diy on my veil. I designed it (very unique color and ombré), cut it out and painstakingly trimmed the lace and softened it.
Thats as far as I’ve gotten, and no more time to do it. I’m having my tailor finish it when I go in for my fitting tomorrow. It’s real silk chiffon so hand sewing is really the only option and I don’t have time or patience for that.
Yours is an inspiration on diy success!!
