DIY veil

Leanna, on April 6, 2013 at 12:24 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 18

I am helping my non-crafty bm make her veil. She wants to add more crystals but I am a little unsure of how to get them to stick without having the veil stick to my table and possibly ruining the veil or my table. What is the best adhesive to use - hot glue gun or E-6000? What should I put under the veil so that it doesn't stick? I've found a couple things on google but nothing is telling me what to put under the veil.

I did mine.. I used tweezers and tacky glue from wal-mart.. I laugh if you might used a 44 oz soft drink cup and a ball cap of his to keep it off the table... I would say something like a heavy plastic... I would not do hot glue depending on the type of veil it could end up burning the material.

Pretty Candace! I was thinking that I would put wax paper under the veil and use E-6000 glue. I will buy a pc of tulle first and practice with it

Use parchment paper, not wax. The wax might melt.

I am making my veil with hotfix swarovski crystals. They have glue already on them. You just need a tool (you can get one for $10-$15) to affix them. It basically heats the crystal which then melts the glue. For flatback, I've read that e-6000 is the best. The hotfix ones are specifically made to be used with fabric though, which is why I bought that kind.

They actually make silicon crafting mats for this. Smiley smile a silicone cutting board will work too. The glue doesn't stick to the surface.

E-6000 is definitely overkill for this project, and hot glue will leave you with strings and burnt fingers.

This makes it much easier: http://www.ilovetocreate.com/Aleenes-Clear-Gel-Tacky-Glue-2-Pack-Pens-331 You apply to the back of the crystal and press it on. Smiley smile

I'm adding crystals to my veil...on both sides. u do it on both sides because when the veil moves, u see the underneath part and usually crystals have silver backs...so u put glue on one crystal, place it on the veil, flip it over and lace another crystal on the back of the first one. Tacky glue would work fine...hot glue may melt the veil. If you use hot fix rhinestones with the tool, you have to be very careful to just heat the crystal and not let the tool touch the veil or it will melt it.

Here a video of what i'm modeling my veil after...you can see how the crystals are on both sides and how nice it looks.

(this video explains how this company does their veils, but i'm using it like a DIY video...has some good tips! They use hot fix stones, but i'm using tacky glue or another clear adhesive.

Abby that is awesome! I think I just found out how to do the veil from the bridal shop that would cost me $200.

Yea the veils in the video are from a company called Veil Shop and they sell for around $200...but i mean the pretty much show you have to make them in their video! I bought a $15 plain fingertip veil off Etsy and once that comes, I'm going to the the gradient style with the crystals like they showed in the video. Best part is...I already have rhinestones that were left over from another "bling" project! =] I'll post pictures when I'm done

My dress has pearls, beads and crystals on it so of course I'd love to do this. I need to find a plain finger tip length scalloped edge veil and then I'll just bling it out :-)

Candace - what did you use for the pearls. Do they have pearls that are flat on one side?

I bought mu plain veil from here...she can customize it too. I got a fingertip veil, but asked in to be cut 2 inches longer, and she didn't charge me for that! If you don't see what your looking for, message her because she can customize it. (don't think there's a scalloped edge veil but i'm sure she could make it!)

Yea they have pearls with flat backs...in one of the videos i posted, they showed flat back pearls used on the veil instead of rhinestones...it was at the end of the video.

That's what I thought :-) I just wish I knew what size to get. Maybe michaels or hobby lobby has them and I can see the size I want and just order them off line
