diy Tips?

Christina, on July 21, 2021 at 12:53 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 15

Hi all, I am looking for some advice on DIY decor for the ceremony. Does anyone have tips on fun DIY that I can have my bridesmaids assist with?

Could you please give more information? What's your theme? When are you getting married? Will it be an indoor or outdoor event?

We have an indoor event and we are getting married in August 2022. We don't really have a theme yet but we do have our colors of blue, gold, and white. I was thinking of creating an arch or backdrop for the ceremony (that could also be used at the bridal shower) but I worry this might be biting off more than I could handle even with the help of my four bridesmaids.

Not to completely shut you down, but have you discussed DIY stuff with your bridesmaids? Are they close enough to you or have enough free time to help you? There's a ton of posts on here about brides and bridesmaids fighting because they weren't on the same page about expectations, so I would at least start there, but also don't expect them to drop everything to make it happen.

As far as what you could DIY, an arch or backdrop might be a lot and could possibly cost more to make than to rent or buy. You could make aisle decor, table centerpieces, signs, floral arrangements... Pinterest I'm sure has a ton of cute ideas in the colors you're looking for. You could also DIY some cute stuff for your bridal party if the person who is hosting is open to some help.

    Hi Jessi,

Yes they are totally down to DIY. I have one bridesmaid that might not be able to attend the ceremony and reception itself so she has offered to assist with the DIY. I completely understand that it is a huge time commitment and realistically I might end up doing a lot of it myself but I am ok with that. :-)

Was just about to ask this because I was in a wedding where we were blindsided into doing all of the bride's DIY stuff with her and I was NOT happy lol. It's great that you communicated well with them and that they're willing to help!!

I've seen a lot of DIY photobooth back drops. Like with faux flowers and greenery and they look so pretty! DIY arches are also neat too, and I'll include a link to a woman I follow that DIY'd her wedding arch with her in-laws and it turned out so lovely! The wedding I was in DIY'd the photo wall and just did wooden planks stained and nailed together and had flowers on it.

Have you looked on Pinterest for inspiration? Etsy has a few arches that you can build upon for DIY stuff!

    Hi Samantha,

I have just started the planning process but I will definitely be checking out Pinterest for those arches. :-) We will be doing an indoor event.

If you are going to DIY stuff then I highly recommend looking into Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Hobby Lobby, and even Lowe's or Home Depot are going to be your best bet for gathering the items together (such as flowers, etc.). Pinterest has SO many great ideas!

Thank you, Heather! I have also heard that Ikea can be a great option but they seem so expensive on most items.

    Christina,
Oh, I didn't even think of IKEA! It actually depends on the items you are looking for. IKEA surprisingly has tons of great minimalistic stuff. So, if you're looking for something more basic then yes it'll be cheaper. However, if you are looking for something not so basic that has a little more design, etc then yes it could get pricey. When it comes to DIY stuff take your TIME. But also have a list ready on what you want to do and what items you are looking for. You may come across times where you may have to substitute certain things here or there. So, keep an open mind to that as well Smiley smile

Love the idea of keeping a list of the items I will need to be on the lookout for ahead of the wedding. :-)

One thing I have gotten help with is lace covered votive candles. They are quick and easy to make and look adorable.
