DIY Signage

AEW, on October 1, 2019 at 3:51 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

Hey y'all!

I've been reunited with my FH (and Cricut) after my summer assignment in AK and although he's said he didn't want me making anything, we're gonna need some signage. Basic Invites has some that you can use for free, but I didn't see any that really match our theme or the colors we used in our invites. It's great to have free stuff, but they're not really customize-able. So I'l gonna try to come up with some basic signs that we can use. I know we'll need one for the cake and card table, the place cards, the guest book, and umm like which way to the restrooms? Did I miss anything?

I'm still new to the whole Cricut thing, so does anyone have some tips/tricks that can help me to create some cute signs for our big day?

There are no signs that are really a necessity, so whatever you come up with will be great! I'm also DIYing all of our signage. So far I've done our unplugged ceremony sign and table numbers. I'll also be doing our welcome sign, but that will be closer to the wedding when we decide if the ceremony will be inside or outside.

Do you know what kind of signs you want to do? Acrylic? Mirrors? Wood? They're really trendy, but I love acrylic signage right now. That's what we decided to use for ours. You can leave them clear or paint the back according to your wedding colors. Super simple and beautiful.

I think every wedding is different, but here are the ones we had:

In addition to these, we had a "dates" sign (first kiss, engagement marriage), a "cards & gifts" sign, a "favors, please take one" sign, "love is brewing" by the coffee, table numbers, a seating chart, place cards, then ceremony pamphlets & menus.DIY Signage 1

Well since I'm not supposed to be making anything (lol), I'm not sure as to what type of materials to use for the signs.

I love the acrylic idea and mirrors are also very cool. I blame Pinterest Smiley tongue

Since the wedding and reception are on the beach, we're having lanterns as centerpieces so I'd like to put the table numbers on top. I want to put the favors on at the place settings so we won't need a sign for those.

I would like to do something for the shoes to let everyone know they can put their shoes in a designated place for the ceremony and they can collect them after. There is jus so much you can do so I guess that's why FH said he didn't want me getting into it. He knows I can't do stuff halfway lol First it will be the signs, then I'll want to make programs and menu cards and then the guestbook . . . see how quick that jus spirals? lol

My Cricut suggestion/tip would be to practice with cheaper paper before moving onto more expensive cardstock or vinyl. I normally test cut things on paper to make sure I'll like the size. Also when ur working with paper or cardstock remove the mat from the paper, not the paper from the mat (it will curl). Hope that makes sense. Good luck.

I made our acrylic welcome sign with our hashtag on it that we got at Lowe’s for about $14. And I also bought an acrylic card box from Michaels for about $12 (used coupon) and put removable vinyl on it that way we can use it for other occasions (like baby shower when we are ready lol). I also made acrylic table numbers. I ordered 5X7 pieces that included stands from Etsy. My flower girls used acrylic boxes with lids that I bought from container store (removed lid and drilled holes for ribbon) so with my cricut I was able to add their names on them. I also customized Starbucks reusable cups for my bridesmaids. The last thing that I remember doing was I wrote out invitation envelopes. Hope this gives you ideas!! Have fun and definitely watch you tube tutorials, they helped me out A LOT!

Thanks so much Sara! I have done a few test runs and yes, I have noticed that the paper does tend to curl, so it makes perfect sense to me. I haven't graduated to the vinyls yet. I think I'll just be using it to write out the words for the signs though - not sure I'll be doing any cutting but we'll see.

Is there anything you would have done differently? Or not at all?

Thank you! I don’t think I would change anything that I can think of at the moment... maybe when we watch our video I’ll notice something lol. But I most definitely recommend at some point during the night grab your groom and stand back and take it all in. Everyone is there for you guys! We did it and we both got super emotional... it was a wonderful feeling.

That's great advice! I'm sure we'll be so caught up in the moment that we wouldn't have thought about just taking a breath together.
