DIY ribbon wands??

Private User, on October 16, 2013 at 8:18 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 5

Okay, so I did a search and saw a whole lot of posts about this subject but they were not quite what I was looking for. I was looking on etsy, they have some nice ones but I would prefer to keep that as a last resort. I have time for the DIY project before my wedding, and plenty of little helpers. I really am just curious how to make them? Does anyone know a website that shows you how to do them? Or any advice about making them?

Or should I steer clear because they are a pain in the butt? Haha

Thanks ladies!

I used this site to make mine. I'm not sure if the dowel rods are soft enough to screw the eye screws by hand. I used cookie sticks instead and I had to drill holes and the use pliers to screw the eye screws. As far as difficulty, it wasn't so bad after getting the eye screws on the sticks. Try a few to see how easy it is. I ended up with 170 and had a helper.

I've done them. Really simple, a little tedious but still fun. The site Elaine gave is perfect. Using a push pin & hammer to get that hole started is easy, but be careful. I broke a few pins doing that & almost hammered my finger. It might be easier to do what Elaine did, drill a hole. I did not use hot glue though, which is really good cuz now I want to change the ribbon (I made them last year & the colors arent what I like anymore). You really dont need the glue, just tie them really tight. Make sure you make only a few as examples, to try out different ribbons, see what flows best together.

Depending on how many you're making, you will need a helper. I only made 30, which by myself took a couple of hours (not literally working every single minute though). Any more than 50 & I'd say get some helpers. Make it a craft party.

@Elaine thank you so much for that tutorial. It explains it so well. I think I may take a trip up to the craft store tonight!
