DIY Photobooth

Sarah, on June 23, 2016 at 11:55 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 15

We are hosting our reception on my FMIL's acerage and we are creating a photobooth for guests. We have a "frame" that will be hung from a tree and I would like to set up a camera on a tripod for guests to take their own photos which I will then upload to our wedding website after the wedding for guests to see and take what they like. My question is 1) has anyone had luck with anything like this? 2) logistically is this realistic? I was thinknig of either leaving directions for the timer, or getting an extension button.

I would recommend just having the frame and a sign that says photobooth with your hashtag and let people use their own phones! You will most likely see them anyways on social media? Or use a Polaroid camera on a tripod?

Your idea seems some what doable if there is no camera difficulty which seems unrealistic even with instructions and then what. Who would know it was broke or how to fix it!

That is a good point. We have a wedding hashtag so that would work, and it would save us money on a camera!

Yea I think that is the most hassle free way to go! We are doing the same at our wedding, a back drop with a sign and our hashtag! We have done the same for our baby shower and it turned out adorable and I saw almost everyone's pictures on Facebook because they tagged us in it!

I like the idea of a Polaroid. You could do a little clothesline with clothes pins and let them hang the pictures up. And, of course, include your hashtag!

I was at a back yard wedding a few summers ago, and the grooms put up a fan type thing for a backdrop where they stood in front of during the ceremony. The guests made it into a photo-booth by using their phones!

You can provide a camera if you wish, but I imagine people will just use their own phones.

I'm still working on the logistics, but I think I have it figured out. We're using my iPad on a tripod with a photo booth app. I also got a printer with AirPrint capabilities for $99 (canon selphy). Photo Paper and ink cost about $35. I'm going to make a sign saying how to print but it is very easy. You will need wifi though, but I plan on using my cell phone to create a hotspot.

I was at a wedding recently where they provided a Polaroid camera, and we could tape the pictures into their guest book. I thought they did a great job with it.

I recommend using a camera on a tripod or having your photographer's second shooter take photo booth photos for an hour or two. If you rely on guests using their own phones, you will not see all, or even most, of the photos. We had a selfie station, and there were pluses and minuses. This is what we did:

Made a backdrop with pvc pipes and a curtain using this tutorial: http://www.dandelionsonthewall.com/2012/04/diy-photography-backdrop-stand-pvc-pipe.html

I set out lots of photobooth props, two selfie sticks, and fun signs. We asked guests to share the photos with our hashtag via a framed sign next to the props. People were at the station playing with props and taking pictures all night, but only a handful of pictures were uploaded and tagged. I would love to see more of them, but people didn't share them for some reason. If we used our own camera or photographer I could have compiled the photos and shared them myself.

We are doing a DIY photobooth and were able to set up our photo printer to print automatically when someone takes a picture. We plan to have a place where they can hang them, and keep a copy for themselves (somehow we couldn't stop the printer from printing two copies)
