DIY Photo Booth

Becky , on November 18, 2014 at 2:42 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 21

Would a photo booth with no printed out photo strips be cheesy? I was thinking about just making a backdrop, getting a little lighting from Lowes, a few props, and a tripod/camera setup but not involving the computer and printer and all that. I thought maybe I'd print the photos and send them in they're thank you cards. Also, they can use their cell phones obviously. Has anyone done this?

As long as you sent copies somehow (like as thank you cards), I would be ok with it. Just be prepared that most people will be looking for a photo strip when they exit the booth, especially if they see a camera. So you'll want to make a sign of some sort that lets them know.

There are several iPad aps that upload the pictures to a central location where the guests can see them. Maybe look into those?

My friend bought a Polaroid camera for super cheap and a bunch of film. That was kinda cool, but make sure you have someone in charge of the photobooth promoting it. It kinda died out at her wedding after awhile because no one was standing by it to help take pictures, so she ended up with a ton of film leftover.

I am doing this at my wedding this weekend. I bought a backdrop stand with two lights on amazon. I asked one of my sisters friends to stand at the booth and take the pictures. I went to party stores, walmart, and a few others to find props. I maybe spent $50-$60 total. Hopefully it turns out well. I set it up at my bridal shower and used my cell phone with a Bluetooth remote. It worked out great

We did a very informal kind of photo booth. We used the backdrop from our ceremony and just threw in a few props...people loved it. I'm not a fan of photobooths so I refused to spend the money lol.

My friend did a DIY photo booth (although she kept the photos as part of her guestbook, but that aside), and she used a FujiFilm Instax Mini 8 polaroid camera. It was a ton of fun, everyone loved the poleroids! and its not very expensive to purchase. The polaroid film is smaller then traditional poleroids... more like the size of photo booth pictures.

@DanieG- let me know how it turns out at the wedding. I'm trying to figure out if people will be confused/disappointed if there's no printed photo. Please and thank you

I really want a photo booth at the wedding. FH doesn't think we need to spend the money on it. So, I'm using this thread and this link to change his mind: http://www.hgtv.com/design/make-and-celebrate/entertaining/how-to-set-up-your-own-diy-photo-booth

I went to a wedding a couple years ago that had a diy photo booth with a backdrop, some props and a camera on a tripod. As a guest I didn't really like it. Without a remote or someone to take the pictures we couldn't take pictures with everyone that we wanted in them. I also never got any of the picture we took because there wasn't a printer and they were never shared after the wedding. To me I would just skip it, as a guest I didn't really enjoy it.

We're doing a DIY one, just picked up my props today.

Truthfully, we aren't going to supply the camera. If my photographer happens to get some, awesome. I figure most people would want the pictures on their phones anyway so we're setting it up that way.

    HI Becky,

They were not disappointed at the shower when they did not get pictures. I uploaded them to facebook that night. I know some guests do not have access to social media so I will be sending the pictures in the tank you cards. I am going to have the person operating it let them know we will send out pictures. I think they will be just as happy. the alternative is to not have a photo booth at all. I think they will be happy they have something Smiley smile

This would be fine, however I would see if you could wrangle someone not necessarily partaking in the wedding to man it. The last thing you want it something to get destroyed or heaven forbid stolen!

I went to a wedding where there was a photo booth backdrop, but no camera--it was cell phone pics only. It was confusing.

I would say as long as you are sending the photos out in a card, it would work out great. I think the guests would enjoy it. However, as others have stated, I would put out a sign that explains what's going on so that no one is confused.

DanieG, do you have the link for your lighted backdrop stand? I've been thinking of having a DIY photo booth but am worried about it having enough light.

Based on everyone's advice, I'm 90% sure I'm going to do this without actual photos, WITH plenty of signage, and call it a Selfie Station.

FHs cousin did it like that becky. They had a little cord with a button and when you pressed the button it would take the photo. That way you dont have to make someone stand there all night
