DIY Photo booth with no camera?

Is this a dumb idea? I have an old iPad 2 but it has no flash so idk if that would work for a photo booth? Can I just provide the backdrop and props and hope people will use their phones and social media to share? Orrr should I buy a lamp?

    I went to a wedding this weekend where they had a polaroid camera and tons of extra film. Guests were able to use the camera to take pictures at the diy booth and around the reception. It was something I really enjoyed as a guest.
