diy or hire designer?

I have a lot of ideas on how to decorate our reception room, but don’t want to spend a lot of money. Has anyone done there own centerpieces, sweetheart table etc. I’ve gotten quotes, and either the price is too high or I don’t like the optionss presented. My wedding is 10/19/19.

I have done my own flowers, centerpieces, ceremony decor, etc for my wedding and a couple of friends’ weddings. I’m now doing my sister’s wedding. If you are crafty and don’t mind all the details do it. If it’s gonna stress you out, find someone to do it and something you like.

We like to find the inspiration pictures then streamline the idea to make it easy and affordable. Since I craft quite a bit I use the wholesale florist shops and craft places, as well as certain dollar stores. Every venue has its own vibe and lighting which can help you with your decor. It all depends on how much time and money you want to spend on the decor. You want to be sure it looks polished and professional.

I did everything DIY from flowers and bouquets to decorations. If you are going for a specific look I highly recommend it. Plus gives you the option to play with pricing and show the deals. i bought most of my stuff on sale!

DIY all the way! Not only is it cheaper but it can also be a lot of fun. With a designer you also don't have a lot of personalization options and get standard packages that they offer to many couples. You and another couple could have the same exact wedding and personally, I wouldn't like that. It's really up to you and how you want your wedding to look. You definitely need a lot of free time and months before the wedding if you want to do DIY! Best of luck!

I DIYed alot of our wedding.

Our "guest book" sign. I need to add the rope and tulle to the back to hang it on the wall after the wedding.
The 2nd and 3rd pics are the flowers for the centerpieces. I made them for about $5-$6 each vs $45+ each premade.
3rd pic also has our "card box" which i painted a small chalk board sign to hang on the front that says cards.
    Cake plate.
    Bouquets and boutonnieres.

We are almost date twins! october 20th 2019 Smiley smile Congratulations!

I almost rented everything myself, put it all together, etc until I ran into an event decorator/planner at a wedding with my dad and fell in love with his work. He had everything I wanted to rent, sets it all up himself, and even does the centerpieces for you if you want him to. I signed the contract that day and to this day I think it is the best decision I've made because a lot of my engaged friends and coworkers are stressed and assigning wedding party members/family/ friends different jobs to do the day of and I'd rather not worry about it and spend that time knowing he's doing his thing outside lol.

I know that it's extremely difficult sometimes to trust someone else to bring your vision to life but if you're able to find someone in your budget who has experience decorating weddings the way you are wanting, i would so go for it!

I pretty much asked for this with different centerpieces. (burgundy/blush/white flowers and chiavari chairs, king/queen chairs at head table Smiley smile I did buy a lot of Disney wedding signage/decor/props for the tables but he is going to set those up for me too.

Congrats! That does look very nice. Do you mind if I ask a range of what he is charging? I’ve gotten anywhere from $800-$4000. I feel like for deco that may be a lot. We are willing to pay if we get what we are looking for, but I don’t want to walk in and be surprised.

Very nice. I’m afraid I’m not that creative. I have gone done the rabbit hole (google) almost every night, trying to find designs that are “me” “us”.

No, I'm using all fake flowers because they are cheaper, I can make my centerpieces ahead of time and a lot of my family is allergic to flowers.

We are DIYing practically everything, BUT there's been a long engagement AND we have a ton of experience with the sorts of things we're doing. I definitely don't recommend DIY if you're not really super experienced, because if you don't have experience with an art/craft medium to the point of being able to do it in your sleep and repair mishaps so they aren't noticeable, you could be out a lot of money and have to either buy more DIY or pay for someone to do it after all.

I'm not saying this to be a snot at all, by the way. We just typically DIY everything in my family because for us, since we grew up learning how to do various things, it just is simpler.

Of course, it all COMPLETELY depends on the look you're going for, too. If it's really, really unique, you might very well be better off doing DIY no matter what.
