diy masters- tackling the corsage

Cassi, on June 28, 2019 at 10:02 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

So I like to think I am pretty nifty with crafts ( I run a small business doing them). I have been working on decorations, bouquets and boutonnieres (5 bridesmaids, 1 bridal, a throw, 7 boutonnieres and centerpieces) but I have yet to tackle corsages. To be honest in high school I only ever went to one school dance with a date and I definitely don't remember what my corsage looked like. I need to make 2 corsages (my mom and FMIL) and I have no idea how. All the google things I've read seem strange and not right (I'm sure they are) but when I put them together I hate the way they look. Any suggestions or helpful tips?

Are you looking on YouTube? I know they have lots of tutorials showing step by step and different styles.

Yeah I have looked on google and youtube and pinterest and I didn't like the way any of them looked. A lot of then use ribbon or elastic which I like the way the ribbon looks just doesn't seem sturdy and the elastic I don't like. (I am a sewer so I hate elastic showing)

If you can make a boutonniere a corsage would be essentially the same except on a strap around the wrist if you get what I mean. So maybe make a boutonniere you'd like except instead of it being on a pin it'd be on a wrist strap

I saw someone have photos where the corsages were on metal cuffs, and liked that a lot better than the typical elastic. I'm DIYing my own flowers out of crepe paper, and found some metal filigree-style cuffs from Michaels, and I'm going to wire the flowers onto them. I've only done a few mockups so far, but I'm thinking of having two small rosebuds and a few teeny tiny poppies plus a few leaves. I'd definitely recommend looking at cuffs or some kind of bracelet if you're not into what you're seeing everywhere online.

Yeah its not an issue of the arrangement itself but more so the fastening. I don't like the way elastic and ribbon tutorials look so was looking for ideas for other ways around it or how to hide the ribbon or elastics. I actually don't mind the ribbon it just doesn't feel secure. I don't like the way the elastic looks at all.

Yeah i was looking on pinterest and just stumbled across that idea and I really like it. I think I may do that as well. You're wiring the flowers on? I did sola woof flowers so I may just glue mine on not sure. I'll need to find the bracelets now. I also saw the old school snap bracelets haha definitely considered that. lol

The corsages I bought had elastic and ribbon. So someone sewed the elastic underneath the ribbon so that it doesn't show and looks nicer

The crepe paper flowers I'm making are built around wires, so I think it'll be easiest for me to use those wires to attach them. I'd think glue would work well on wood flowers though!

I just finished mine last night! I kept mine sleek and minimalist on purpose. Here are our corsages vs our bouts. I just used the spray if crystals and the black glitter floral tape. (Secured the ends of the floral tape with a drop of hot glue!)

Very pretty, how do you plan on securing the corsage? Are those silk flowers or real? They are beautiful!
