Look up some good tutorials for it. I'm sure some of them will indicate the approx amount that was used. Good Luck

I depends on the type of flower. I was actually just looking at that yesterday. They said for a medium size ball, you need about 100 carnations. More if you're using roses, less if you're using gerberas or something larger like that.

Edit: that is if you're using real flowers.

I watched a video on how to make kissing balls @ www.michaels.com. She used 12 gerber daisy per ball. But it does depend on the flower. Good luck Smiley smile

What size ball are you going to start with? That also determines how many.

button mums? 4" ball takes about 80 flowers to cover the entire ball. - averaged that each ball cost $10-$12

5" styrofoam ball and roughly 50 blooms

also, In a tutorial I found somewhere they said to first stick the flowers in the ball to divide the ball in half, making a straight line of blossoms all around the outside top to bottom. Then you divide in quarters and fill in the 4 "holes." I think it would keep them even and you would use less than if you were to eyeball it and just start filling. Many tutorials fail to mention how to insert the flowers to make them even, etc.

SSo pretty, where do you guys get your fake flowers? I found them at efavormart but its $24 for 56 mums ... It would be expensive to do them then if it takes 80 of them Smiley sad

On efavormart.... those are bigger than the button ones...

    Flower size: 6" wide x 3" tall

maybe if you do smaller balls it would stretch further. The price quote from above was for real button mums bought in bulk, I could pull up the website if that was something you were considering....

    surface area of a 4" ball = 50.25 inches. (probably 9 or 10 of the 6" ones)

    surface area of a 5" ball = 78.53 inches (probably 14 or 15 of the 6" ones)

So, if you know an estimation of the diameter of the buds, you should be able to guess around how many you will need.

mathematical guess makes it probably 4 - 5" pomanders per 56 mums = $6 per in flowers - but not sure what it looks like visually, guess it depends on how dense the flower is
