DIY- Gold Lanterns

P2BE, on January 2, 2016 at 6:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

Anyone spray paint there lanterns gold? I bought cheap ones from Ikea but the black ones. I had a change of heart and think I want them gold so will probably return them for the white ones and spray paint them...any advice? Lessons learned from your DIY experience?

Id like to see your lanterns, are you able to post a pic? I spray painted quite a few of my wedding items. If they are black i would use a primer first to really achieve a nice gold color.

I did using krylon spray paint. It took a while just because they have a lot of small surface areas. I ended up getting this squeeze handle that goes on top of the can so I wasn't killing my fingers. Also make sure you start early and paint on non -humid non-windy days.

Unfortunately I'm on mobile so I have trouble posting pics but let me try to post the Ikea link. They also have them in white so I can exchange them. Thank you! Any tips are appreciated!

Great advice Rosie thank you! Any pics? Do you remember if you used a specific gold color or is there only one?

My lanterns have this double sided devil foam tape holding the glass at the top and bottom so it doesn't move around. I didn't notice the devil foam until it was time to take the glass out. It was a pain in the butt to get the glass out, clean the sticky off of the lantern (and glass), and then spray paint. For that reason I stopped at 8 lanterns and on the other tables I'm doing something coordinating. It wasn't fun! Check your lanterns to make sure they come apart easily. Smiley smile

If you'll be using real candles inside the lanterns, make sure your paint is heatproof and won't catch fire.
