diy Flowers or Florist?

Elisha, on June 7, 2020 at 1:27 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 9

Hello!

My husband and I are planning to have our ceremony and reception Jan 3, 2021. We're both not necessarily a huge fan of flowers but would like to have some for decoration purposes. We were wondering if people used Etsy to do their own DIY for flowers rather than get a florist?

The only flowers we had were bouquets! I had mine professionally done because I was nervous they wouldn’t come out as good with DIY. But we DIYd the bridesmaids bouquets and they looked great!

I’d say it really depends how much time you anticipate having, because if you are DIYing real flowers, you’ll have to do it the day before the wedding. Since we just had to wrap 4 bouquets, that took under an hour so it was fine. But if you have more flowers than that, it could be very high pressure the day before your wedding. Alternately you could get fake flowers and then do them whenever you want!

If you don't like florals as much, you can do branches/vines, candles, greenery, mirrors, banners, paper pom noms, etc. You can do a lot with paper decor projects.

Do you have a color scheme? Venue?

That seems like a really good idea!! I was thinking of just ordering some bouquets off of Etsy, as well as decorations and then get my bouquet done professionally.

If you don’t mind faux, craft stores often times have bouquets already in bundles that’s where I got mine from.

We were thinking of doing vines for centerpieces but would still like to do bouquets for the bridal party and me. We're going for a dark burgundy, dark green, and white color scheme (similar to Christmas colors).

    That sounds really elegant!

I bought my bouquet on Etsy from this seller and she was great to work with! Completely customized my bouquet to be exactly what I wanted: https://www.etsy.com/shop/SongsFromTheGarden?

(I wanted faux flowers so I didn't have to stress out about wilting petals or be limited by seasonal availability. You could also resell them when your wedding is done, rather than have flowers go bad and have to be thrown out.)

I’m Team Real Flowers. We had non-floral centerpieces and no wedding party so it was easy for me to justify just one bouquet (mine). But even if I had a wedding party, I might have just done a single stem bouquet or greenery bouquets for the MOH/BMs. Maybe lanterns as centerpieces with fresh greenery may be a cost-effective option.
