diy flowers... how long?

Nicole, on August 31, 2019 at 12:38 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 5
I’m making my own flowers (real) that are delivered 3 days prior to the wedding. The company said its best to put them together 24 hours in advance (as if the rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, and last minute preparations wasn’t busy enough)!

For people who have tried it, just wondering how long it took? I’ll have my mom, grandma, and 4 bridesmaids helping me. We are making 5 bouquets, 5 boutonnieres, and 7 centerpieces.
Thanks!

It took me, my mom, my fiancee, and one of my brothers about...3-4 hours to do 3 bouquets, 3 boutonnieres, and 14 small centerpieces (I had mason jars and bud vases). Since you have more help, I think it would probably take you a similar amount of time. My husband and I did a small, trial run the week before with flowers from trader Joe's, just to familiarize ourselves with the tools and process. On the day before the wedding, we had a good idea of the steps to take to make our arrangements, which I think helped save us time! The bridal bouquet will probably take you the longest, because none of the other floral things are going to look the same. The centerpieces and bridesmaid bouquets will be a little quicker after you do one, because the rest will probably follow the same pattern. Good luck!

    Hey Nicole!

Have you ever done any flower arranging before? If you are familiar with the process and what exactly you need to do, you will be able to speed up the length of time it takes. Would doing a trial run with some cheaper flowers be an option so that you use all of the wedding flowers to their best potential?

What flowers will be in your bouquets?

I’ve never done any flower arranging before, but I’ve read about grouping different kinds positionally and watched tutorials though! Good suggestion on trying with cheaper flowers first. These flowers though will come needing to be cut, leaves removed etc. so I’m nervous about that whole process of flower care prep :/

I have white roses, burgundy ranunculus, red mattholia, spider mums, ammis, erynguim, barberry branches (that I preserved) and some greenery- eucalyptuses (baby blue and silver dollar) and dusty miller!

I did it pretty much by myself and it took a couple of hours the day before the wedding to do two bouquets, four bouts, three corsages. But, it was also an hour or so of cutting and prepping the flowers when they came in. It wasn't a boatload of flowers, though, and my centerpieces were just flowers and filler in bud vases.

I did buy fake versions of the flowers I wanted and played with those, then bought similar real flowers about a month before the wedding and practiced putting them together.

I definitely think that a trial run will help you out and boost your confidence with this task!
