diy Desert Table

Imani, on March 21, 2020 at 2:51 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7

I reaaallllyy would love to have a dessert bar/ table for our reception. I'm trying to find ways to make it more cost-effective. Has anyone done a DIY dessert table?? Anyone have any ideas on how to do it? I'm mostly concerned about where to get the items (because I doubt I'll have time to make it myself) and also how much to buy.

Food things like this can be very dangerous especially right now with all of the viruses going around so you have to be careful to make sure everything is properly clean and handled. You'll also have to check with your venue to see if they allow this. I know our venue wouldn't have allowed this. Our decorator did our candy bar for our wedding, but she had to provide proof of insurance for sanitary reasons. My mother-in-law was however allowed to make our favors, but I had to check with our venue first. Our favors were cake pops that were individually wrapped. My mother-in-law and two sister-in-laws made them at my one sister-in-law's house the Thursday before our Saturday wedding. My mom-in-law loves to bake and she offered to make anything we wanted. She also made all of the desserts for my bridal shower which included cookies, cupcakes, and oreo balls. Buying desserts from the store could be rather expensive so unless you plan on making things yourself I don't really see how this would be much cheaper of an option and like you already said you don't want/have the time to make things yourself so you'd need help. I would ask others to do something like this unless they offered and even then I would still be hesitant.

We’re not getting married until September of next year and it’s also not a problem for our venue.

I did a diy candy bar! I had five different wrapped candies I bought in bulk. I bought some big plastic clear bowls from dollar tree and put it on.

It’s not desserts aha but it is a really easy option.

I’m doing a dessert table! I ordered a pack of 2 porcelain cake stands and a pack of 4 porcelain platters from amazon to give varying height (our cake will be on a different cake stand that’s taller than the other 2). I also have a champagne sequin table cloth that will go on the table (these same table cloths will also be on our sweetheart table and card/guestbook table to tie it all together). I ordered some silk (?) flower petals from a shop on Etsy in our colors to have scattered around the table. Our caterer offers dessert options of cookies/brownies for $1 ea and miniature cheesecakes, chocolate ganache and key lime cakes for $2 ea. So much cheaper than getting 1 cake to feed everyone!

You can go to dollar store and second hand stores if you need jars (candy) or trays, plates, etc. I’m going to get cake, brownies, etc. from Costco and also some cupcakes from a local bakery. I don’t want just cake so I might add cookies if I don’t do them as favors. I don’t care if it doesn’t match the other cakes. You can get disposable silver trays at dollar store.
