  If you really want a wood one you could always rent tools from home depot. Much cheaper than buying tools!

  I would try foam board and with a layer of cardboard underneath for extra support!

  Do you definitely want a wooden cupcake stand? We are having cupcakes and using vintage cake plates.

  I think you could also do an alternative as just having different plates raised by boxes, even.
