diy Cigar Bar?

MrsD, on February 19, 2019 at 12:51 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 17

So our venue has a cigar room, so we are setting up a cigar bar for our guests. Any suggestions on how to do this & when I can start buying cigars & how to store them?

I know we will need matches/lighters & cigar cutters. I'm also thinking of printing out a cute piece of paper for "how to smoke a cigar" for people that don't know. I've found Cigars International online that usually has good deals. My fiance & I both love cigars, and so do a lot of our family and friends. But I know some aren't familiar with them at all.

How many types do we need? Do we need a lot of flavors? Anything else I'm forgetting?

I would take the time to go to a local tobacco store. They will have all the info that you need to put it together and might be able to give you a good deal on nice cigars. The one near me also runs a 'cigars for beginners' night once every other month so they obviously tell newcomers about how to smoke them and could have some advice for you on how to word things for guests

How cool! I will have to look into that. I looked in our area, and they really didn't have a true tobacco store but I will look into Denver since it's a larger city and I'm sure they have one. I didn't think about going into a store, but it's a great idea!

My husband did a DIY cigar bar at our wedding. He bought a humidor to keep them in until the day of the wedding and bought the cigars (50 hand rolled cigars from a local shop) earlier in the week. The shop supplied him with cutters and I bought packages of lighters at the dollar store. Most of the people who smoked a cigar at the wedding had done so before but his cousin never had and my husband was more than willing to help show him the proper steps.

How far in advance did you buy the cigars, just a few days? We are 5 months out. We don't have a humidor (we are actually registered for one), but I guess we could purchase one prior. I've also seen DIY ones with coolers, I'm just not sure how well they work. How many guests total did you have for the 50 cigars?

My FH is wanting to do this as well. My sister had an in person cigar roller at her wedding and FH and my brother said they were not good quality and would not go with that type of thing for our wedding. I know FH has said he’s going to be buying a big box and we will get some labels for them. I know he does have a few humidors in the house but I also don’t know when he plans to buy them but would like to get other people’s input as well

I got a quote from one, and it was $1,600 to have an actual live roller and $800 just for an assisted table. We aren't sure a ton of guests will use it, but since the venue has the room we though we should just do one ourselves. So we are planning on spending closer to $400 probably. We don't have any humidors so I think we will have to buy them less than a week before it sounds like, and do the DIY cooler humidors (which is fine, we have a ton of coolers). Do you know where your fiance plans on buying the big box of cigars and how many he plans on getting (and what your guest list is) and how many kinds he will get?

H got the humidor on amazon for like $20 since he didn't need a fancy expensive one. He may have bought them a few weeks before the wedding but I know he went to the shop and spoke with someone sevral months before the wedding. We had about 100 people attend our wedding so we accounted for half our guests to have a cigar. We actually went through our guest list together and marked whether we thought each guest would smoke one or not and based our number off that plus a few extra.

Nice! I'll have to look for some cheaper ones. We registered for a nicer one, which is why I'm seeing if the DIY cooler ones will work. I think we will start going into local shops soon, but wait to buy like you guys did. Do you feel like you had enough cigars? Did you have any leftover?

We did have some left over, maybe 10 or 12. We figured we needed about 40 but the shop sold them in bundles of 25 at a discount so we got 50. They did not go to waste after the wedding. It was actually pretty simple to guess about how many we would need when we went through the guest list.

I'm glad to hear half was enough! We are inviting 225 guests, expecting between 150-175 anyway (including children) so I think half would make sense for us too. I think going through the guest list is a good idea.

You could buy them now if you get a humidor to store them in and you keep it at the right temperature and humidity. Definitely invest in a good cutter and lighter specifically for cigars.

How long can you store cigars in a humidor? I've actually never heard of a cigar specific lighter, so that's great you mentioned that. I'll look online for those! We have some cheap cutters from Amazon already, they were around $4 a piece. But I'll get 1 or 2 nicer ones too, maybe $10 or $15 a piece?

If the temp and humidity are at the correct levels, they should last for years. The cigar lighter is like a mini torch so it’s a hotter flame to evenly light it. Definitely makes it easier to light!
