I'm thinking about catering my own wedding . I know it takes time and patience. Will anyone be making there own food for the reception.

You won't have time yourself and you want your family to enjoy the day rather than cooking. Unless you're getting married in your backyard, countless venues have strict food safety regulations that prevent homemade food being brought in.

If cost is a concern , have a favorite restaurant cater. They will provide a ton of food (plus plates, silverware etc) without the wedding markup.

I am not doing my own catering because with my sister wedding we did that and we noticed yes it was cheaper but family didn’t have time to really enjoy the night because some were helping serve food ect. For my wedding I didn’t want anyone to worry other than the caterer

How many guests are you planning on having? If it’s small (I would say less than 30) then I would get a family member not you personally cook all the food but overall i think it’s a bad idea. There are restaurants that you can order catering trays from that won’t have a wedding mark up. I would recommend BBQ or like a taco bar

Consider that you'll have to cook, get your makeup and hair done, get dressed, greet your guests, coordinate decorations, actually get married, and somehow enjoy the day.

Most people who have done this end up regretting it, as it distracts them from all of the other pressures of the wedding day.

If money is an issue, perhaps make it a cake-and-punch reception?

This is a safety issue. Are you certified for safe food handling? Do you know the rule of 4? Do you have the ability to speed cool dishes? Do you have liability insurance?

We are catering our own wedding for 160 people. IF you choose to self cater- make sure you have a good game plan. Write every recipe that you are using down, write out a timeline, Prep as much before hand as possible. Don't try to make over the top dishes. Keep things simple and plan for more than you think you need!
