Hi Ladies,

I'm thinking about a DIY bridal veil. Anyone else out there doing this?

Any tips?

I made mine. It was super easy and cheap! Spent less than $30 for it to look just like the $350 dollar one. There are lots of tutorials online, but here are a few tips
    1. Figure out the style you want and pick material accordingly. If you want a drop veil you’ll want more of a silk tulle or English net meanwhile if you are going for more body you’ll want a stiffer tulle. I just used standard tulle from Joann for mine just as a reference
    2. Fold material in half and cut approximate shape you want around the fold line (this will make sure it’s symmetric). There are many different types so do your research. Pinterest helped me. It needs to be much bigger than you think to gather it so make it big, you can always cut it down later. This will also depend on how much volume you want
    3. You can find YouTube videos showing how to attach the veil to a comb. This was super easy. Then shape it to your liking. I wanted a really simple one. I shaped with scissors then used a rotary cutter to make the edges smooth and even which made it so easy
    4. I did embellishment with simple clear beads I ordered online. It didn’t take as much as I thought to just line the veil just FYI if you’re planning on doing anything like that

side note please excuse my ratty hair in the pics. I was sick when I took them lol

Another cute touch would be to sew on your mother's, auntie, or grandma favorite broach or hair combs in the back. Plus that could also serves as your borrowed item.

Here’s how I attached it to the comb. This is the underside so it’s hidden when you’re wearing it

I'm going to attempt making a bird cage veil with my maid of honor, out of chantilly lace.

I haven’t tried to make my own veil. I thought about it but I found a ton of inexpensive veils on Amazon and wish. I would check them out first unless you need a unique color. I am doing a lot of DIY for the wedding so I didn’t want to add another project.

If you do make your own veil I would add a metal comb. I bought a few veils to try and the metal comb is a lot easier to attach to your hair (in my opinion). You can use a coupon and get them for cheap at Joann’s

Great tip Chrystal! I will look there. The veil I really want is in the same shop I purchased my dress. I couldn't in good conscious purchase a veil that cost 1/4 the price of my dress. It's ridiculous! So I thought, "There's got to be a better way!"

Thanks for the advise ladies! Keep 'em coming!

I made mine 😊 Well actually my FH helped me make it, so that was kinda the best part. Facebook marketplace also has reasonable ones as well. I looked their first before deciding to do my own. Smiley smile

Hi! I'm making my veil out of English silk tulle. It's 118 inches wide and 132 inches long. I dyed it myself. It's a pale blush color that blends with my gown. It's taking forever because I'm ill. I am a veil designer and I went retro. The waist length blusher is full like Princess Diana's and I have gathered the tulle onto the curved comb creating fullness. I also drew inspiration from Maria's veil from THE SOUND OF MUSIC. I will have over 600 pearls and about 1200 crystals in various sizes. The crystals are in a pale rose and clear. Thank God my wedding is in December. 😉 Lots of lovely tutorials online as others have said. I'm here if anyone has questions. You can PM me. If I don't get back with you right away you are not being ignored, I have good days and bad. Best of luck to everyone. ❤

Thanks so much. I ended up purchasing it from Amazon. I found it for literally 30% of the cost.

Do you have any tips or pattern you could point me to for a cascade/waterfall/angel cut veil? I bought gorgeous ombré silk chiffon and hand trimmed lace for the edging. I will be glueing the trim on bc the silk is so fragile (I know I know. I’m a quilter lol.) I designed the idea myself in my head (it’s black to red ombré and I’m wearing a black lace gown.)
but I can’t find a pattern or tutorial for this type of veil aside from some unlinked basic pictures on Pinterest . I only have one yard of the chiffon and it was a splurge so I want to do it right!
Id appreciate any tips or a resource! Every tutorial is always tulle and always cathedral or drop veil.

I planned to go to Joann’s to get some cheap practice fabric like tulle or poly chiffon but they don’t drape the same way so I’m worried I’ll mess it up.

    Hi Tiffany,

I decided to purchase my bridal veil instead. What I wanted to make was outside my skillset so I went with a buy on Amazon.

Check out this link from Martha Stewart. I hope this helps you.
