diy Boutonnières?

Andrea, on April 21, 2019 at 3:26 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11
I’m considering making the boutonnières for the men in my wedding. It’ll be just 3. FH, best man and my father. I’ve been to Michaels and Hobby Lobby and have tried to put some together, but they just don’t look right. Since there are only 3, I’m wondering if I should just buy some from a florist.l and avoid the extra work. Does anyone know how much a real boutonniere costs? Have any of you made your own? Any advice?

A real boutonniere could be about $15. I made my own with fresh flowers and it was pretty simple (bought bulk flowers and made bouquets, etc. too). I just watched some DIY videos on youtube.

Look at your local grocery store. Many florists can give you a great price if you know what you’re looking for.

I made 6 of them and found it pretty easy after watching a few YouTube videos. I used artificial flowers from Michaels.

We made these! Are you making sure that you wrap the entire bottom heavily in floral tape or covering it with something like we did with the shotgun shells? You also have to cut the individual stems much smaller than it seems like they should be so that when you combine the separate pieces together it isn’t huge lol good luck!

These are great! I haven’t tried making any yet. I just can’t seem to find flowers that look right together. My FH said to go for it, but wants something somewhat masculine. That’s where I blank! I’m going to have to really look around for the right flowers!

Maybe you should try taking him to hobby lobby with you and see if he likes anything if he has something in mind! I know if I was making them I would question whether he liked everything so it would just make it easier if he picked it!

I didn’t look at coats for real ones, but I’m making my boutonnières. I went to hobby lobby and got some roses (ones before they bloom so not too large) from the wedding section, some leaves and smaller flowers from their floral section and ribbons (both 50% off). I ordered floral tape and wire on amazon for cheap. I think the whole thing cost about $20, and it’s more than enough for 3 pieces. You’ll have left over with the wire and floral tape, but better than not having any.

I am thinking of doing all of ours, 12 total, with help of my mother who is super crafty. My florist quoted all of the bouts in our package over $200 so I figured we could do them cheaper. I appreciate the info and tips here.
