diy Boudoir anyone?

Sherry, on August 19, 2019 at 2:50 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 17

Let me start by saying my FH is super conservative. I am a plus sized bride and have never dressed very flashy or sexy but wanted to do a boudoir shoot for him. I mentioned that my cousin was thinking of doing one (she was married a month ago) and he was very against it for that fact that someone, even another woman would be seeing me and taking photos of me half naked or even fully naked. I kind of knew that would be his reaction so I dropped it. We recently went on a trip together, the first part was a business trip for him and the last part was a funeral. While he was away at work, I did my own shoot. I snuck props and sexy outfits, lingerie etc in my suitcase and went for it. OMG! I took over 200 pictures and narrowed it down to 95 lol. I found a old portfolio at Goodwill, recovered it and made him an album that I will gift to him on our honeymoon.

Has anyone else done a DIY boudoir session? How did it come out and how did your FH react to it?

Here are my progress photos of the album...

Love this idea! I have been thinking about doing one myself. Question, did you use a tripod? A camera or a smartphone?

Since we were traveling, I had to get creative. I couldn't pack my tripod because it would look too suspicious but I did take rubber bands and my phone has a pop socket on the back. I tied the rubber band around that to hang from towel hooks, light fixtures, lamps etc and once fully extended, it hooks on sinks and desk chairs perfect lol

Thank you. I was iffy about it, wondering if I could even pull it off, hate all the pictures, hate the way I looked etc but the best part about the DIY is you get to choose your poses, facial expressions etc without any judgement or fear of looking stupid and can delete any you hate and re take anything you don't like. I highly recommend it.

Oh wow!! That is awesome!! I've been debating a boudoir shoot, mostly because of the cost. Even with one of those "free" sessions, I've discovered that it can really cost a lot of money. But the way you did it, it could be a very affordable option.

My FH is actually very into the idea of one, but I've had to tell him we can't afford it. So, now maybe I can surprise him with it!! Yay!! Thanks for sharing your insight and your process!

Yes girl! You so can. Thankfully, my family owns a print shop so I was able to print them myself but there are print yourself places all over or if you have someone with a good home printer. All you need is a cheap photo album and bam!

I think you're right!! We live just down the street from Walgreen's, and I'm down there all the time printing photos, for super cheap!! I was actually bummed that I couldn't afford the boudoir album, because FH likes to have sexy pictures of me, but at the moment what he has are in his phone!! I'm so worried that those photos are going to be seen by others! He's always telling me not to worry. Right.

Now I know I can make him a "special" album just for him, and then make him delete all the photos of me on his phone. lol

Haha! Yes. If you need some outfit or prop ideas, let me know. I can tell you what I used. It would probably be easier doing it at home vs on the road since you would have access to more stuff.

I think you're right about it being a bit easier to do at home. I've already starting collecting lingerie in secret--I was going to take most of it on our honeymoon. The only "prop" I was thinking of is a feather boa. My cousin has a few of those in different colors that I can borrow. What other props did you use?

Ohhh, a feather boa would be great! I used a peony (silk, leftover from a wedding project), one of his dress shirts and ties, my getting ready shirt which has what my monogram will be on the pocket, my wifey shirt, a leopard print silk tank, my veil, a jean jacket, a black masquerade mask with a black lace teddy, lace thongs, my "wedding" panties. I also had a plain pair of white, black and nude colored panties and the white sheet and huge window with sheer white curtain were great to use too for some soft lighting. I also had a good variety of jewelry.

Dang, typing all that out made me realize just how much stuff I had to sneak in my suitcase! lol

Oh, wow! I hadn't thought of most of the things you used! That's great, now it's starting to come together in my head!! This is going to be great! Thanks so much Sherry, for all of the tips and inspiration!

I hope your FH appreciates all you did in putting this together! So special!

I really did try to think of everything portable I could take with me since I would have no way to get anything where we were and to also have a variety. I wasn't sure how I would do but once I started, I was on a roll lol. Thank you and good luck! I hope it comes out like you hoped and your FH loves the surprise as well!
