DIY: Birdseed for send-off...

blushingbride, on September 3, 2011 at 11:09 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 3

Hey there! Have a DIY question for you brides...

We *think* we've decided on bird seed for our send-off from the ceremony. I plan to make the cones myself - I do a lot of crafts and have a pretty simple pattern.

The advice I need is, how should we store them? I thought they could all be in a basket, but we're concerned they might spill. Any ideas? Have you seen this done?

We plan to have our greeter pass them out as guests exit the church following the ceremony - that way guests won't have to worry about holding on to them.

Thanks! Smiley smile

I've seen it done once where they had cut organza material into circles and put the seed in the middle then tied them up with personalized ribbon. It was cute but seems like a lot got spilled that way.

I've also seen it done with the organza bags, and we just poured it out into our hands then tossed it. The bags were not full and easy to use.

What about covering the top of the cones with organza and tying with a ribbon?

Maybe you can make the cones where there will be enough extra space left over to where spilling will be harder? Or make it to where you can tie a ribbon on the top. You could lay them on a plate/platter, but they still may spill.

What if you fill the cones half way and the other half fill with tissue paper the way you would a gift bag so the edges come out. Then when it comes to throwing the seed they just pull the tissue out.
