Distance from venue to rehearsal dinner?

Nilou, on May 8, 2015 at 8:17 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

How far is too far from the venue to have the rehearsal dinner? If you were coming from out of town, how far would you drive?

Originally I had picked our favorite restaurant but it's about a 30 minute drive from the venue (I actually picked the rehearsal dinner restaurant before we had picked a wedding venue) but now that we have the venue it's further away from the restaurant.

Is 30 minutes drive too far? For those in LA, the venue is in Universal City/Studio City and the restaurant is in DTLA.

ETA: The issue is not about who's invited or inviting OOT guests. I get it that WW community strongly believes in NOT inviting OOT guests to the RD but that's not my question. I know that WW thinks about that topic. I was hoping to get opinions on the distance from the wedding venue (hotel where a lot of guests will be staying) to a restaurant. And based on the comments so far I can see we need to find a closer location. Thanks all! Smiley smile

One, why do you HAVE to invite all your OOT guests? rehearsals should just be the bridal party an immediate families. RD is for those participating in the rehearsal.

Yes, Studio City to DTLA is too far for OOT guests, will there be traffic?? That's a prime traffic-y area.

Maybe consider hosting drinks for the OOT guests instead of having them go to rehearsal/RD? That's what we did, and it worked out great Smiley smile

The question is not about who's invited. That just is what it is so I hope everyone doesn't harp on that part.

Thanks for the input on the distance! That's what I'm not sure on. Now we have to find a closer venue.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about the distance if it was a straighter shot but that is definitely tough driving if you don't know the area and with traffic, ugh. I don't like making that drive at all...

My co-workers were suggesting Ca Del Sole in Toluca Lake to me today. I don't know if you like Italian food but I guess they've got a beautiful patio that can hold large parties.

The restaurant were doing for the welcome dinner is about 20-25 minutes away from the hotel the guests are staying at. I'm assuming your guests are staying at your venue, mine aren't. It's a restaurant that is special to us, we do it for all family events, and they're getting a free meal - can they really complain? ? I think half an hour is fine so long as that is really a half hour and not an hour and a half with traffic.

You don't have to invite all the OOT guests; don't make this a second wedding. It should just be your BP, sig others family, and your officiant if they are running it.

    It is too far.
