Disposable plates?

Ashley, on March 1, 2018 at 1:21 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 29

I'm considering using disposable plates. I just feel like its so much easier! Where are the best places to buy it from and how much of it do I need? I will have about 250 guests.

You caterer should provide plates and take care of cleaning them.

We are using the disposable China that looks real. I've found the best price at the warehouse stores.

My caterer only offers paper plates with their logo on them.

With that large of an amount please consider compostable dishes and flatware.

Why do you feel it's easier? Not like you or anyone in your family/wedding party would be washing the dishes....

Disposable plates are for backyard BBQs, not weddings.

Wow, way to bash my choice. My caterer doesn't offer China so it would be my family/wedding party cleaning it up. Also, I'm working on a limited budget and it makes a whole heck of a lot more sense to use disposable due to cost.

Does your caterer offer servers? If so they can probably hire dishwashers and if you rent Dishes (not necessarily China) you can be much more eco friendly plus you won't have your family/friends cleaning for your wedding

I would ask your caterer in regards to the amounts you will need. Particularly for cups you will need a new one for each drink, so that could be 5+ per guest.
You said you are considering using disposable plates but I would encourage you to look at renting china - I'm sure they would have recommendations for who you could hire to wash etc. and as a guest I would rather have this than plastic.

Do you have a contract with them? This is a very important part of your day. Please make sure you are protected if something happens. There was a post today about a friendor that was supposed to make a cake for someone and backed out with a month to go. Food is even more crucial.

    Hi Ashley,

I too am looking into using disposable plates for my buffet wedding. Not only is it cost effective, but also easier since you are not using a regular caterer who would be responsible for clean up of dishes/cutlery. I've chosen to go with palm leaf plates which are compostable and DIFFERENT, a quality that you do not see with many weddings today. Please do not be swayed by the negativity seen in this forum. This is your day and if any one of your guests has an issue with what they're eating their free food off of, maybe you should save some extra money and not print them an invite. Good luck!

Thank you! I went to a wedding where the budget was almost $400,000 and they used disposable plates. A lot of them are really pretty.

    I am doing this, too!!

if there is a Tuesday Morning near you, check in-store to see what they have on-hand so you can find a brand or design that looks high-quality. Then look them up online and order in bulk Smiley smile I like to see what I am ordering before I make the plunge! Haha

I've seen the faux china on ebay and Amazon. It's heavy duty white with silver or gold rims. They also have matching sets. I'm getting the same thing through my caterer.
