Disposable Plates and Forks

Nancy, on June 21, 2016 at 8:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

For our casual, outdoor Rehearsal dinner, I want to use wooden forks and bamboo-compostable/disposable type plates. Has anyone used these, and if so, what brand? I want something not too cheap, as it needs to be sturdy. Thanks

I've used SOLO Bare Sugarcane plates ordered off Amazon for different events. They are compostable and were sturdy enough for BBQ. Amazon has a number of different compostable plates and utensils to choose from.

Look on Webstaurant Store. I am using Palm leaf plates (10 inch square). They are compostable. For a case of 100 it is $28.05. They are beautiful and great for the rustic or outdoorsy, woodland look.

As for the wooden forks.....I researched and looked and finally decided to order a small pack of them to try them out first. Even the more sturdy quality ones were a bit flimsy for cutting. Really the biggest issue I had with the wood utensils is the weird 'feel' they have in my mouth while eating. It's like that feel/taste of a popsicle stick... not too pleasant to eat an entire meal with.

All said and done, I went with silver "look" utensils (plastic) because the wooden ones just didn't seem to hold up or 'feel' right to me.

I am doing the same thing as Esmeralda, palm leaf plates and the plastic utensils that look real. I have ordered a ton of things from webstaurantstore.com, it is a great website. These are my plates.

It's a RD. Use Chinette plates if you want to. It can be as casual as you want. Believe me...nobody is going to judge whatever you decide to use at a RD.

I just went to a wedding that used those wooden plates and forks. Personally I hated the forks. I have a thing about eating off wood. To me it’s like nails on a chalkboard. It gives me the chills just thinking about it. I can’t eat a popsicle with a wooden stick either, it’s that bad. I actually ate with my fingers at the wedding. It’s probably just me and trust me after that experience, I will always pack a fork in my purse, lol.
