Disposable Cameras

Cora, on March 28, 2018 at 1:57 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 24

Hey Ya'll

We're thinking about getting a bunch of disposable cameras for our guests to play with at the reception...anyone whos done this know where we can find them in bulk or know what a good ratio of camera per number of guests is? We have a professional photographer too...we just thought this would be a fun, cheaper alternative to a photobooth!

Let me know!

My BIL had this at his wedding last month. A lot of people didn't know how to use them. We had dinner with them a couple weekends ago, and they told us from 10 cameras all the photos were black, no one knew to use the flash, or how to wind the camera. It was a complete waste of money.

I wouldn’t waste money on this. Everyone has a camera on their phone nowadays and will want to take pictures that way. I just would hate for you to buy them and be excited about developing them and find out hardly anyone used them.

Do they still make disposable cameras? Doesn't it cost an arm and a leg to get film developed?

Why not just have an Instax printer for cell phones set up so people can instantly print the pictures?

I agree with Nas, something happened at a wedding I went a while back the bride was upset by wasted money. I'm encouraging everyone to just use their phones and to please send or tag us in any post and choosing the ones we like to print and put in our album. We also have a photographer

This was big some years back but now with camera phones, I think it could be a waste of money. You could get an Fuji Instax camera and set up a DIY photo booth. With that, you would be able to get the photos right away.

Its a huge waste of money. My sister did this years ago. She spent a fortune developing the cameras that were all of the floor, half a head, etc.

I would just have a something that asks people to upload their photos to a certain site, or email them to you.
The disposable cameras were super popular about 10-15 years ago and a great idea in theory. But I agree a lot of people don’t know how to use them anymore, and a lot of photo places don’t develop actual film (my husband manages a photo lab for a major retailer and they don’t do it anymore).
That being said maybe poll some of your guests at your bridal shower or bachelorette party and see if it would work for your crowd.

I really wanted to do this too but once we started researching places to actually get them developed we realized it was going to be super expensive. i love physical photos but in the end we've opted to just get our own printed.

Even when disposable cameras were popular years ago, the results were not worth the money. You have to pay to get all the film developed before you can even see what kind of pictures you have. Everyone has a cell phone with a camera. Just ask you guests to share their pics.

This is not really a thing anymore, since the invention of smart phones. I wouldn't waste money on this, people likely will not use them. They'll take pics with their phones.

Ummm I had a completely different experience than others... We had about 5-6 disposable cameras and all of them were full of AWESOME PICTURES. People took pictures of me and DH (my profile pic is one from a disposable camera, attached below) and tons of pictures of groups of friends and family that the professional photographer didn't capture. It was only like $15 each to get them developed, but you have to wait a week because they send it out. I'm very happy we did it!!

My nieces offered there polaraid cameras for our wedding reception for guest to use. I did tell them if they got broken I would replace them. I can't wait to see what kind of photos we get back.

I will say that these did not take the place of our photo booth - which was a hit. My favorite keepsake from the wedding is the guest book that the photo booth attendant put together and had everyone sign/write notes after they were done taking their photo booth picture.

I had a friend do this and she said she go pictures of A**'s and Elbows because kids got ahold of the cameras and they took pictures of each other taking pictures.

An alternative to this is what we are doing, is a photo sharing app called VERI you pay for an event and anyone who downloads the App and enables your event can chose to have photo sharing i.e. any photos they take during a specific time period will be automatically shared with you!

they even provide you with digital prints of a little card that you can put in your invites inviting guests to your Veri event!

our wedding is Saturday so I will let you know how it goes Smiley smile

This would be fine 15 years ago. Everyone has their own hand held personal camera now, it’s called their cellphone

My FMIL did this at her wedding a few years ago and all of the kids took the cameras and took a bunch of awful photos and wasted the film. If there are children I might be wary the would take them.

People will take pics and tag you. Unnecessary IMO but if you want to do something fun make a DIY selfie station or fun backdrop for people to use.

Cute idea .. but I know from personal experience how hard it is to get film developed these days !! My FH found a roll of a film from his late fathers camera and called everywhere to get it developed and no one could do it

This was great in the 90's but now everyone has cell phones and can tag you in photos so it seems like a waste.
