Display only shower?

OctoberBride, on April 21, 2010 at 11:22 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Has anyone ever had or been to a "display" only shower? I've been to so many showers, and everyone I know agrees that watching someone open gifts (usually that they picked out, if you register) for hours is the least fun part of the shower. I would much rather be able to spend time conversing and enjoying the company of my guests! My mom suggested that we do a "display" shower. She said that a little poem is put in the invites asking the guests to "wrap" the gifts they bring in bows or ribbons only, so that no unwrapping is necesary. Then the bride has the option of going through each present quickly and acknowelding each person's generosity or giving a broad thank you to all guests and inviting everyone to view the gifts at their leisure during the party. Has anyone ever heard of this or done this?

I actually enjoy that part of the shower. Not to mention the bows/ribbon are saved to make a bouquet for the bride to use at the rehearsal.

I haven't heard of it but think it's a great idea.

I agree with ladylee, I actually enjoy going to showers/parties and watching people open gifts and seeing what they get. Baby showers are even more fun as you get to see the shocked 'Oh my god it's so cute' look on everyone's face. I also like to save the wrapping paper, bows, ribbon, bags and either reuse them or add parts of them to the scrapbook or other projects.

I like seeing all the pretty wrapped packages and seeing the bride open all the gifts.

Not much of a shower if the bride just says a general thank you and go check out my stuff displayed over there because I didn't want to take the time to unwrapp everything. Sorry not liking the idea.

Huh, I guess I will retract my answer. I didn't realize so many people enjoyed that part of the shower (or any part, I find showers painfully boring.)

Yada yada, I hear you! I find my friends and family discussing at showers how much they hate showers! Obviously, if people enjoy that part I want to please my guests more than myself, and I'm happy to sit and open gifts (although I dont enjoy being the center of attention). I just figured I'd get a feel for what people's thoughts were to see if more people preferred one or the other.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't like having to go to showers either, but if I take the time to buy a gift and go, then the bride can take the time to open the gifts.
