Display cake knife on wall

Joe, on February 16, 2016 at 2:29 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 14

We're looking for something that can hold our engraved wedding cake knife set, hanging on the wall. We have a small shelf set for a lot of our wedding stuff, but it's a bit too small, and doesn't have room for the knife set.

I'm thinking some kind of clip or something, but I don't have any idea what to look for.

Anyone have an idea for something that would look reasonably classy to display the cake serving set on the wall? Both the knife and spatula are engraved, but we could probably just do one or the other if we can't find something that works for both.

I don't know if this an unpopular opinion, but I think it's really strange to hang knifes on the wall...especially fancy cake serving knives....

How about putting them in a shadowbox?? I think that would be really cute.

I'm not sure about hanging the set...but I would suggest getting creative at Ikea...there has to be something that will work- I do like the shadow box idea as well. Pretty- and will protect anyone should they fall off the wall...perhaps you could line the shadow box with some linens or decorations/ flowers and other small things from the wedding that would be better protected from dust.

@mrjonesandme: That's fair - I'm just looking for a place to put them other than hidden away in a box. I can't really picture it, so if you have other alternatives, I'd love to hear them.

@Brit12: That's an interesting idea - I'll look into it and see how it would look, thanks.

Yea, first thing I thought of was a shadowbox! However, you won't really be able to use them again, they'll just be displayed. So, something to think about. Alternatively, you could display the cake server and store the knife in a drawer or box, so that you could use them when the occasion called for it.

@September Splendor: Ikea's a good idea - every time I go there, there's a million things there that I never realized that I absolutely can't live without...

@annakay511: I didn't think about re-using them - maybe for an anniversary or something. I'll have to keep that in mind, thanks.

I would hang them in the kitchen on a utensil rack where they can be displaced but also easily accessible to use. I don't see why you wouldn't use a cake serving set for every birthday cake/holiday pie moving forward.

If you want to keep them strictly for display - definitely do a shadow box. Otherwise I think it would look very weird. I have my set in the cupboard ready to go for future use! We didn't have ours engraved, though. It is a nice white handled set by Martha Stewart from Macy's, so totally functional, not just wedding pretty

Mine's going into my kitchen drawer to be used on bread and cake in the future. But also I'm not having it engraved.

It could be really cute as kitchen decor in a shadowbox.

@Holly: Magnetic strip might work, not sure it would look that great though.

@Jeanne: Just a decoration thing - so we have a "wedding wall" which has all of our stuff. If we need to cut a cake, we can use a $1 knife from Dollar Tree, rather than a set we paid $100 at Things Remembered.

@Kris, Sara, Belle: Thanks, I'm leaning toward shadow box if I can find the right size.

@Rene: For decoration, just to have a wedding wall with lots of fantastic memories.

@CaliBride2B: That's really cool. We would just need the box for the knife set, but I like having a visual on a nice example.
