Disney world honeymoon?

Talia, on April 17, 2020 at 10:12 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 9
So I go to Disney every weekend with my fiancé and it’s our happy place. This wasn’t our choice for our honeymoon because we wanted to go somewhere we never been (New York) but with everything going on we are hesitant on going and now are leaning towards WDW. Is this a good idea even though we go every weekend and vlog ? If so what would be some good tips while honeymooning there?

Personally, I wouldn't want to go somewhere for my honeymoon where we go to every weekend. I would feel like it would be too similar (but that's just me). Also, you still have plenty of time before the wedding before you would need to book anything in NYC. Hotels are closed now and most of the Manhattan hotels are housing healthcare workers for easy access to hospitals. If things starts opening up by then, it should be relatively easy to book a room.

I agree which is why I’m so hesitant and you’re absolutely right . I haven’t booked anything yet since we have some time but I hate not knowing .

    Thank you

Yeah, I definitely get it. I live about 40 minutes outside Manhattan and it's definitely rough out here. The governors of NY and NJ (as well as surrounding areas) have really been working hard to flatten the curve. I trust that they won't re-open until it's safe to do so. You've still got time, so as stressful as it may be, I would wait it out.

I’m not sure when you’re getting married, but my fiancé and I went to NY last December and had the best time. We went to radio city and saw the Rockettes and then back stage. I enjoyed it more than I thought. We did other touristy stuff and then left about a week before Christmas before the hotel prices jumped. You should go. New York and Disney will most likely open similarly time frame.

Another NYC metro area person, here! It's rough right now, but we're starting to see some good numbers at the front end... it'll take a while, though, and we probably won't fully be clear until there's a vaccine. I can't imagine us staying absolutely closed to tourism, though, it's a huge part of our economy. My concern is that a lot of entertainment may not be at full capacity.

That said, DH and I did DW for our honeymoon, and we LOVED it. However, I hadn't been in 30 years, and DH had only been to DL, not DW. If we went every weekend, it might be less fun. Though, as someone familiar with it, you could always devote that time to the extra special things you don't usually do. And, of course, Disney gives you special buttons and perks for being on your honeymoon.

Can you hold off on decision making for a little bit? It's hard to wait, I know, but I think we'll get more clarity by May.

We did WDW for our honeymoon, and it was fantastic, BUT I agree with others, you don't want to go for your honeymoon if this is an every weekend thing for you. I would hold off a couple weeks and just see how things stand then - however, if you decide WDW is your spot then I can tell you what we did:

We stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter - it's (obviously) New Orleans themed which made total sense for our relationship, because that's where we started dating and where we got engaged. It has a relaxed feel, and was very quiet (and we had a corner room overlooking the pool, so it's definitely well insulated lol). First tip - add that you're honeymooning to your hotel reservation. It ends up on your Fastpasses as well and whenever you use your Magic Band it shows up.

The first and last days were 1/2 days because of flights, so we avoided reservations those days and just did Fastpasses.

When we arrived we went to the concierge and got our Happily Ever After buttons. Second tip - GET THE BUTTONS and wear them! Cast Members will tell you congratulations and between the buttons and your Magic Bands you can sometimes get free stuff - I'll tell you what we ended up with at the end.

We made dining reservations at: Le Cellier (EPCOT), Cinderella's Royal Table (MK), San Angel Inn Restaurante (EPCOT), Flying Fish (Boardwalk area), Yak & Yeti (AK), 50s Prime Time (HS), and Hollywood Brown Derby (HS).

We had two sit down dinners in HS because we were gifted the Fantasmic dinner package - dinner at one of three restaurants (the high end choice is HBD) and special seating for the show - SO COOL. But, I really wanted to go to 50s Prime Time (they definitely treat you like family - our server ("cousin") was all "why wasn't I invited to the wedding" - it was fun and the food is good!

So. Cast Members are allowed to give away things to people who are celebrating (when we were there in February 2019 for my Mom's birthday, someone gave me an ice cream, because I was celebrating). Don't expect things - people who do, tend not to end up with things - just an observation. We got: a cheese stuffed Mickey pretzel, a churro, glasses of champagne at Le Cellier, seats at Be Our Guest for lunch (they were telling people they didn't have seats until 3, and let us right in), an extra half dessert and champagne at Flying Fish, champagne at HBD - and I'm sure there are things I've forgotten.

Get wedding ears! We wore ours only one day - that day we got audience participation at Monsters Inc Laugh Floor - it was cool.

Obviously, because you go, some of this is redundant, but it gives you an example of what a WDW honeymoon *can* look like - it really is a different experience going for a big celebration than just going.

It was really awesome - and the Memory Maker was worth the money too. There are those behind the scenes tours too which might be worth it too, since you're there regularly Smiley smile
