Disney World Honeymoon

Taylor, on October 27, 2020 at 6:55 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 22

Hello everyone,

My fiancé and I are really wanting to go to Disney World the first week of September of 2021 for our honeymoon. I am trying to plan and find the best deals out there, especially with everything going on right now and being on a tight budget. Any suggestions on where to look?

I don't know all that much about Disneyworld (I've been there once), but I've heard that honeymoons there can be quite pricey. Have you considered waiting and taking your honeymoon a different week? I would imagine that prices during labor day weekend would be more expensive than the average weekend, so you might find a better deal if you go when it's not a peak vacation time.

I assume that the first week would be a little pricey because of the holiday? I could be wrong though

If you want the best deal on Disney World, GO NOW! My cousin just went & it was sooooo cheap. AND the park is like a ghost town! It’s usually wall-to-wall people and 1+ hour wait for every ride... they didn’t have to wait in line for anything! She sent me these pics... usually you could never get these pics without 50-100+ other people in them.

Honestly she’s right, I went in August and there was nearly any people. Only at Hollywood Studios was a little busy. That’s because they have so many new attractions. But if I were you I would go now take an earlymoon lol if that’s a thing. With Disney parks you want to go went there are the least amount of people.

Also right now they have great discounts on rooms, and I think they’re booking through fall of next year. There is not dining plan at the moment. I would give Disney a call and see what kind of package they can offer you. You can also look into a travel agent the specializes in planning Disney vacations. I can give the names of a couple of you need them.
We went for our minimoon last January and it was great! I also went down in August and as PP said there were virtually no crowds/waits for the rides!

Do you know which hotels they are offering deals at until next fall? Yes if you have any agencies that would be great! We are getting married end of august so looking to go right after.

I’m not sure. I just know I’ve seen ads on Facebook for up to 30% off. I do know that at the moment not all hotels are open.

So, September is a really rough month to go to Disney, because of various holidays around the world, and the gear-up to the Christmas season.

DH and I got married in August last year, and didn't go on our Disney honeymoon until January. It was deserted, by Disney standards! (And pre-COVID!) Also, cheaper, because it's a less popular time.

There ARE ways to get discounts, I think through Disney Points Exchange, or something like that, but otherwise... no, you just have to time it for lower-priced times.

A good way to save is to also NOT park hop, to bring snacks into the parks, and maybe look into the meal plans.

We also limited most of our souvenirs to magnets and pins.

I recommend scheduling THROUGH Disney, though. We went through a travel agent, and had to schedule our own Magical Express (though it is free), and arrange for our own Magic Bands.

I used to work at Disney so I can provide a couple pointers haha:
    1. If that is Labor Day weekend, you might want to consider going the week after since they are least busy in September right after school starts
    2. Near Disney Springs there are a whole bunch of non disney hotels on that road, Marriots and Hiltons etc. that are cheaper than staying on site but also provide buses to the parks 3. If you want to stay on site, stay at an All Star resort, they are cheapest but still as great an experience as any other disney hotel
Not exactly sure how they are doing tickets for a year out but right now you cant buy park hoppers, you can only go to one park per day. And several things are not operating, like fireworks, parades, and some shows and restaurants. But I would imagine that should hopefully be resolved and back to normal by September!

We're going next Sept/Oct (I wanted to be there for the 50th, since my dad was a balloon holder on opening day) 8 nights/9 days at the Beach Club. You *CAN* book your hotel and tickets (including park hoppers) for next September now - but the deals aren't available yet - you can always call and add a deal if one is offered after you make your plans. However, they are not currently doing dining plans - but you may be able to add them in the next year. There are ways to save money - go for fewer nights, stay off site (or at Swan/Dolphin), or stay at one of the All Star Resorts. Bring some snacks with you - eat your big meal at breakfast (it's less expensive) - and eat breakfast late, so you can skip one meal (or have a smaller meal). Alcohol is going to be more money than soft drinks, so stick to soft drinks/coffee/water for the most part (though there are some places that I *highly* recommend for a drink). Plus, you're going to be there during food and wine, so you need to plan for those snacks. I don't have too many money-saving tips, because we splurge when we go; but you might look at Disney Food Blog or All Ears (also a blog) because they always have articles/videos/suggestions for saving (and they both have youtube channels).

We did Disney for our honeymoon too, so I can send you a listing of things we did/suggestions outside of this as well - but as I said, not too many in terms of saving money. Always happy to talk Disney, though!

I’ve been there before and it felt like the best deal was when you bought more tickets. For instance I only went for two days but it was cheaper technically if you went for a longer period of time like say five days. And a lot of hotels will have shuttles that are free that go to Disney World

I am mainly looking to save money on our hotel. I also typically go all out in terms of food and activities at the park! if you have a list of things to do that would be so awesome. we have been there before but looking for a more honeymoon feel type of experience, so anything you have to offer would be so amazing

We went for 7 nights/8 days

We stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter - it's (obviously) New Orleans themed which made total sense for our relationship, because that's where we started dating and where we got engaged. It has a relaxed feel, and was very quiet (and we had a corner room overlooking the pool, so it's definitely well insulated lol). It's a moderate resort though, so the middle tier. Least expensive are the "All Star Resorts" then Pop Century and Art of Animation (unless you want to camp). First tip - add that you're honeymooning to your hotel reservation. It ends up on your Fastpasses (if they're available then) as well and whenever you use your Magic Band it shows up.

Get the meal plan - it can save you a lot of money if you like to eat lol. You have to add your honeymoon to dining reservations separately - I don't know why, but you have to call. Assuming it's available next September - if not, just be aware that food is spendy! (So worth it though)

The first and last days were 1/2 days because of flights, so we avoided reservations those days and just did Fastpasses.

When we arrived we went to the concierge and got our Happily Ever After buttons. Second tip - GET THE BUTTONS and wear them! Cast Members will tell you congratulations and between the buttons and your Magic Bands you can sometimes get free stuff - I'll tell you what we ended up with at the end.

We made dining reservations at: Le Cellier (EPCOT), Cinderella's Royal Table (MK), San Angel Inn Restaurante (EPCOT), Flying Fish (Boardwalk area), Yak & Yeti (AK), 50s Prime Time (HS), and Hollywood Brown Derby (HS). (I don't recommend Yak & Yeti - it was good, but nothing special.)

We had two sit down dinners in HS because we were gifted the Fantasmic dinner package - dinner at one of three restaurants (the high end choice is HBD) and special seating for the show - SO COOL. But, I really wanted to go to 50s Prime Time (they definitely treat you like family - our server ("cousin") was all "why wasn't I invited to the wedding" - it was fun and the food is good!

Get a Memory Maker - you'll be able to download all of your photo pass and ride photos - completely worth it!

So. Cast Members are allowed to give away things to people who are celebrating (when we were there in February 2019 for my Mom's birthday, someone gave me an ice cream, because I was celebrating *her* birthday). Don't expect things - people who do, tend not to end up with things - just an observation. We got: a cheese stuffed Mickey pretzel, a churro, glasses of champagne at Le Cellier, seats at Be Our Guest for lunch (they were telling people they didn't have seats until 3, and let us right in), an extra half dessert and champagne at Flying Fish, champagne at HBD - and I'm sure there are things I've forgotten. Back to the observation about people expecting things - there was a couple in Flying Fish about the same time we were, who pulled wedding ears out of their bag and set them on the table instead of wearing them, weren't wearing the buttons, etc. - they were obviously expecting a magic moment - they got nothing.

Get wedding ears! We wore ours only one day - that day we got audience participation at Monsters Inc Laugh Floor - it was cool.

Have fun planning and let me know if you have any questions. We're Disneyphiles through and through!

If you're on a budget, might I suggest a hotel in Kissimmee or hunters creek. Neither are that far from disney world, but are far enough to be quite a bit cheaper. Fast passes are definitely worth it. And if you're planning on eating at the park, call ahead to the restaurants, as some are by reservation only.

I wanted to come back and add - you should hit some of the lounges. They're more relaxed, which helps with the romantic feel (assuming you can sit in). We went to La Cava in the Mexico Pavilion, Jock Lindsey's Hanger Bar in Disney Springs, HBD Lounge (for a drink before dinner), and Tambu Lounge at the Polynesian (the most romantic of the ones on this list - we watched the MK fireworks through the window while we had tiki beverages).

When we go next year we want to visit Baseline Tap House (HS), Oga's Cantina (because it looks fun - not romantic, also HS), Nomad Lounge (AK), and Wine Bar George (DS).

I honestly wouldn't plan any travel right now, and if you do, make sure you can get a full refund or get travel insurance that can refund you if things haven't drastically improved in a year.

Disney offers full refunds on all packages as long as you cancel 30 days in advance - you just have to book through them (and make sure you cancel if you need to)

But would that include flight and all the other pieces that go along with booking travel? I'd just be sure you are completely covered!

True. Once you're able to book flights (you can't make flights for next September yet), you'll want to make sure it's refundable or changeable or that you have travel insurance. The nice thing about Disney is once your flight lands *everything* else is Disney - Magical Express from and to MCO, internal transport at WDW (monorail, skyliner, busses, boats), internal dining and entertainment.

You actually can book flights for end of august/first of September! But yes, all flights and disney is allowing full refunds right now. The only way we wouldn't go is if they shut down Disney World!

also, thank you again for all your super helpful information!!
